    Hello Everyone,
We are struggling with determining whether we can tow a particular fifth wheel within safety and legal guidelines - too many hours/days trying to figure this out. I can provide the weights, etc. of the trailer and the truck if anyone can help us with this. Would sure appreciate your expertise and knowledge. Just want to do the right thing. We've spent days googling, calling rv and toyota dealerships and the bottom line is: ridiculous that this is not a simpler thing to understand. Won't buy the fifth wheel if it is over the limits, but the private party will only hold it a few days for us. Thank You All

    The Truck:
    2017 Tundra 2x2, 5.7, tow pkg.
    GCVW: 6,900
    Curb Weight: 5,170
    Towing Capacity: 10,200
    4.3 axle ratio

    The Fifth Wheel: Komfort 271FS
    UVW: 7,560
    GVWR: 11,557
    GCWR?: 10,160
    Pin Weight: 1,397
    UVW: 7,560

You can't safely tow a fifth wheel with a halfton, which is what the Tundra is.

First thing, when did Toyota sell a 2x2? I've only seen 4x2's

Back to the main question you show a pin weight of 1397 - what does your door sticker say for payload? I know you get a little extra payload being it's a 2WD, but I'm guessing that takes up most of your payload and leaves no room for occupants or supplies.

Payload is the issue with the Tundra, very hard to fit a 5th wheel in them. Basically a 7000 lb wet hitch pull travel trailer is pushing the limits - hitch pulls only need 10% tongue weight while 5th wheels you're after 15-20% on the pin.

Check your door jamb sticker and find your payload. Take that number and subtract a rough number for occupants and supplies you would have in the truck while traveling. That will leave you with your available payload, multiply that by 10 and that will be the biggest travel trailer you can tow at it's wet/loaded weight.

Why take the risk of injury or death to you and you family and other people on the highway to save a couple of dollars on a camper?
Either get a bigger truck, or a tow behind that your tundra is rated to haul.

That pin weight alone is going to kill the idea. Unless you have enough helium baloons...

No, seriously, compare that 1397 lb pin weight (which will be for an empty trailer) to the trucks payload rating MINUS any passenger(s) weight and anything else in the truck, including your hypothetical 5th wheel hitch and rails, (probably 100 lbs right there)...

There's a reason you see very, very few half tons with fifth wheels. Gooseneck trailer are a tad easier but not much. About the only half tons that truly can handle them are the special tow king F150's and the like that are stripped out and have special suspension, and you have to custom order. So by that point most just end up buying 3/4 or 1 tons.
