Toyota Accessories for 2021 Tundra TRD Pro that are "worth it"

I was lucky enough to be able to reserve a Super White 2021 Tundra TRD Pro from a dealer. They are asking if I wanted to add any accessories.
Currently it has:
Spray-On Bedliner
Center Console Tray

considering adding:
Bed Step
Console Safe
Predator Steps
Remote Tailgate Lock
Black Tailgate Badge
Tonneau Cover

Can anyone share the pro/cons of getting these done on the initial build vs doing them myself afterwards vs getting something aftermarket? Thanks!

 

Pro: It's done when you get it.

Con: It's way more expensive than doing on your own after the fact. Look up the prices of those items on Sparks and compare to what the dealer/port will charge.

For me, it's a convenience decision. I added some things to mine that I could've done myself like the Tailgate Lock because I'd rather it already be done.

 

Possible pro: if you are financing, the cost of those accessories can be rolled into the monthly payment.

I also believe that Toyota accessories that are purchased and installed by dealer are covered under full factory warranty.

Not sure either of those are enough to justify the increased cost as @baron mentioned above though.

 

Add what comes with a warranty, keep in mind that now you are financing add-ons as well.

That list of accessories are all very easy things to add on after the fact.

Also there are hundreds of options for covering the bed. The factory cover...works, but is far from the most functional.

 

Definitely consider some kind of step rails .. they’re useful for most people, especially kids and smaller adults. I got the stealth running boards on mine, mostly because they’re flat, not an eye sore, and very easy for my kids. I’m not personally a fan of the predators.

and ya gotta have the TRD PRO bed stamp! Come on man!

 

If you’re patient and can wait a little while, you can get deals on all of those add ons and at a significantly cheaper rate. I personally wouldn’t add the dealer mark ups on all those to a financing.....

 

I went with the spray bed liner from Zebart and think its the Rhino brand and came out awsome and its about 1/4" thick, very hard surface and great slip resistance and would recommend it highly and was about 500.00

 

Remote Tailgate Lock seems like the only option that would be a simple time saver from the get go. Would like to get some side rails so the kids can use them right away until i get something I actually like.

 

I'd probably get the tailgate lock and maybe the side steps for the convenience of not having to do it myself. The badge would be nice too. I'd have to see what their markups are for everything else.

 

It’s quite a bit more expensive at the dealer. Rolling it into your monthly payment makes it even more expensive over the long-term as you’re paying interest on the more expensive way to do it.

But that might be worth it to you if you’d rather have it all up front and don’t look forward to doing that kind of stuff yourself.

The DIY route avails you to far more aftermarket options, but you could still purchase OEM parts for cheaper and install them yourself. There are several dealers who sell online for decent prices. McGeorge Toyota and Lewis Toyota seem to usually have the cheapest prices online. Sparks is another option.

 

Do your own console safe. Mine had it already in when I got it and there isn't a tray that will fit. There are aftermarket ones you can install yourself that have the tray as part of the unit. I would say most of your list is stuff you can DIY for cheaper.

 

Do you have a link to any safes that will accommodate a tray? I have the OEM safe that was installed by the dealer and hate that there are no organizer trays that work with it.

The predator steps are on here from time to time and check Craigslist. Also, look at the tyger brand steps on Amazon....these are the ones I have (covered the lion logo and stars):

All of the Iran’s are relatively simple to install and easier if you have an extra set of hands. Everything you listed I installed myself.

 

All are easy enough to install yourself and avoid the dealer markup. The bed step is definitely a great mod and easy. Follow the tips from @lehminh here:

Biggest issue right now is finding running boards that look similar to the TRD ones that come with the TRD Pro Sequoia my wife has... The kids have a real easy time with them.

I installed the bed step and it was well worth it as these truck beds are difficult to climb into without some type of assist.
Also, not sure if the TRD Pros come with the TRD front and rear sway bars, but the added handling benefits are well worth the investment IMO. (but not so great if doing serious off-roading). :

 

I personally wouldn’t have the dealer do any add ons because they’ll upcharge it plus if you’re financing that’ll be more in interest that you’d be paying for. Save up, buy aftermarket parts (new or used) in the future. Just my .02, congrats on the upcoming purchase!

 

On my PRO I had some essentials installed right away: Tailgate lock (dealer), window tint fronts (dealer), PPF (dealer), console safe (I'm CCW permit holder, so critical; installed myself), DiamondBack tonneau (I'm in MN...so snow, and able to secure belongings in bed), Amsoil MP spray (again...MN with salt; applied myself to undercarriage) and black accent badges (did myself).
Steps or rock sliders are not *essential* but are nice, both for ease of access (kids/pets) and prevent door dings in parking lots: I went with RCI and love 'em (installed myself). AJT chrome delete package...recommended.
That's a start.

 

Worth it - depends on the user...but knowing most everything can be added after delivery and at a lower cost or with greater options/selection makes me want to go aftermarket.

One thing that was mentioned today to me by dealer - Bedliner.

On the Toyota it will have the raised "TUNDRA" spelled out - if you like that look the Toyota is only way to add...but going AM gives you options on texture and color at around same price point.

The only thing I would do is bedliner and running boards....

 

If I could go back and do it again...I wouldn't get any OEM accessories from my dealer.

We negotiated 1/2 price accessories, but many are still overpriced.

Bed Steps - removed
Tundra Tailgate letters - removed as they started peeling off
Bug Deflector - removed
Rear Step - we got our OEM 1/2 price, installed, so I'm fine with this one.
Line-X Premium - same as above.

 

Raptor has some very nice step bars and running boards. I founds my step boards very easy to install and the packaging was great. I bought the 4" wide step bars and the pads are very sturdy for both kids and Grandparents. I think you can get running boards as wide as 6". Definitely worth taking a look at. I have had mine over two years and have no issues with the step pads and the black paint has no fade or any problems.

 

For me the only things I'd do at a dealer prior to buying would be stuff that requires the vehicle for a day or 2 - bed liner is a good example. Sure you can get it cheaper later but the convenience of not having to drop the vehicle off later is nice. Anything I can do in my driveway I'll do myself. With that in mind it changes from person to person - I'm perfectly fine to crawl under my truck to put on running boards, sway bars, exhaust - but I can see others that would much rather someone else do those things at a premium cost.

One more caveat is the dealer may be maxed out on negotiating cost of the truck, it won't go any lower, but they still have room to negotiate accessories. I did this with the wife's Ram - they just kept coming back with either no change or tiny increments, so asked for ~$600 running boards instead and they came back at $300 on the boards. Would have cost me that to go aftermarket but now I get someone else to install them.

 

Everyone has brought up good points. I definitely feel comfortable under a truck. Not happy with the stock choices for running boards so I will probably have something aftermarket waiting to be put on when I go to pick up the truck. Spray on bed liner is an easy choice for me, so is the remote tailgate so there will be no warranty issues with it. Everything else I will do myself. Good excuse to spend time working on the truck anyways!

 

Just the one that was posted above. You will find various versions of that safe in these forums and they all come with a tray.

 

Front and rear TRD sway bars were the best thing I added, huge improvement driving and towing.

 

Had my front installed 3 weeks ago. The handling is MUCH better. The rear was a game changer for sure.

 

I just assumed the TRD Pro came with all the TRD stuff. Definitely looking into the sway bars.
