Do you have any rub with new tires? Also what are your measurements from center of wheel to fender? Just trying to figure out what lift I need . I’m guessing you have 2.5” lift? Did you do UCA and sway bar extensions?
    Thx in advance!

Hey man - no rub anywhere with these tires. From center of the hub to fender is about 23” front and 23.5” rear. Not sure how much higher that is than stock but probably around 2.5”. I’ve got stock uca with no issues. I do have sway bar extensions. The link is on one of the first pages. Hope it helps!

Finished the wrap on the front chrome. The 3M satin dark grey is a decent match to phantom grey, love the way it looks. Easy to do and only about $15 in vinyl. It's the first time I've ever wrapped anything and it's pretty easy. We'll see how it holds up. Next up are the mirrors caps and rear bumper.

Looks great. One of the cleanest 1st gens I've seen. If I could snap my fingers and own a 2005 or 2006 I do believe it would be nearly exactly what you've done here. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like you tow a decent amount of weight, with the truck leveled, how does it handle the tongue weight? Are you pleased with how much sag you see? Would you consider air bags?

Thank you! I haven't actually towed anything with this truck yet. From what I remember of my last first gen Tundra (06 DC 4x4 limited when it was new), it towed several thousand pounds in a cargo trailer with no issue. Not sure if this would need airbags, but I've got nothing against them. Had them inside some coils on a 3rd gen 4runner and they were great!

Grille and both mirrors done. All from a single sheet of 1’ x 5’ vinyl for $15. Pretty stoked how it turned out.

Looks great man! Do you just cut the vinyl heat it up and then trim with a razor blade? Also have you thought about doing anything with the badges. Because I’ve considering usingPlasty dip and then do my badges as well what’s your thoughts?

Thanks man! Basically just put it on, stretch it a little bit. Heat it up, trim it, and tuck the edges. I watched a few YT vids that helped. It's really easy to work with. I'm planning to do my badges black plastidip soon. It's definitely on the list and I think it'll look great.

All right I ordered some so again thanks for the tips.

In terms of the fog light bulbs you use did you have any troubles with the LEDs or was it pretty much plug and play? Thanks for answering all my questions!

Totally plug and play. No issues at all. My headlight use a 55W HID but would work with stock halogen headlights as well. If you put in LED headlight bulbs, you'll need resistors or you may develop foglight issues.

Did some sound deadening today with Noico 80mil. Wow, this stuff is heavy!! And you DEFINITELY need a roller to do this properly. Didn't have a ton of time this morning, so I focused on the flat parts and places where the panels may touch in the center console around my sub. Not a single rattle! In the next few months, I'll be stripping everything out and doing the whole cab.

So, I attempted some vinyl wrapping last night, watched some YouTube videos, and struggled and getting the mirrors completed. How did you go about getting those smooth especially around the various curves of the mirror.? Did you preheat the entire sheet and kind of stretch it would love any tips you have. Thanks

I only did a little heat at the end. I just stretched a little along the edges where it had some wrinkling. Maybe it was the wrap quality? Mine was pretty easy to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good luck! Make sure the surface is really clean with rubbing alcohol. Try to get the middle as smooth as possible when first putting it on. Then don’t be afraid to pull the edges back off the surface to stretch it a bit and get the wrinkles out. A little heat helps of you need to make it more stretchy. I found the heat made it shrink a bit so heat before you cut and tuck the edges. Good luck!

Next up, planning to add audio controls to the steering wheel and add a perforated leather wrap. Need to recondition and swap these covers. To be continued...

This is a great thread. Thanks for putting this up! Im going to try and do a full on LED swap this week. I'll definitely use the plug in relay fix to make things easier.
Thanks again for sharing all your upgrades. This really helps guys like me who can simply click on the links and get what I need without all the research, and also slightly more confidence that Im getting the right thing the first time.

    Cheers!

Thanks man! I've actually since swapped out to a Diode Dynamics Smart Relay CF18 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085B9PLHF) that gives the touch tap turn signals and strobe hazard lights etc. Definitely not necessary but pretty cool nonetheless. Send me your address and I'll send you the regular LED relay if you're in the lower 48.

As mentioned above, I recently added a smart tap relay from diode dynamics https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B085B9PLHF I love the 3 blink smart tap feature, but I also think this strobe hazard feature is really cool. Reminds me of my EMS days because these LED blinkers are so bright!

Getting the passenger airbag replaced this morning per recall. If I have time after that I’m going to finish sound deadening the cab and start my steering wheel refresh. Lexus airbag and audio control from a cruiser and a new perforated leather wrap. Should be pretty sweet if I don’t mess up the wrap job.

Just waiting in a connector to finish my steering wheel audio controls.

Today I added some mass to be as quiet as possible on the highway.

I was finally able to get my steering wheel audio controls wired up. I used a Lexus GX470 airbag w/ cover with audio switches and a Metra Axxess ASWC-01 box.

    DE585A3F-3C76-4651-BF4B-A75CB7467490.jpg

    Before and after:

    982E64BB-884C-4098-887F-A200CAB3081E.jpg

My 2005 Double Cab is an SR5/XSP and didn't have the audio controls nor did it have the wiring at the clock spring (only 3 wires coming out).

    44C13608-22FA-4FC6-8EF2-19B917AF5C2E.jpg

I also have only a 12 pin harness at the back of my stereo, rather than the 20 pin as most others have.

    4C0D6001-DE29-457C-AE88-9451F5C084A0.jpg

To make things easier, I snagged a clock spring harness with the 7 wires coming out of it from an 04 Sequoia in a pick n pull rather than re-pinning my existing clock spring plug.

    4A80ED99-4E20-4BF7-8683-44776E827221.jpg

Here's the pinout for the plug coming OUT of the clock spring. The colors may vary, but the pin position seems to be correct across many models.

    64F42ADB-8A90-47E6-A350-A15D23674361.jpg

Cut and soldered my original three wires from the 10, 11, 12 positions onto the new donor pigtail.

    1C2714A5-8498-4E4F-A165-3C1B3F46C7D3.jpg

From the factory, I had wires in positions 10, 11, 12 which are for the cruise control and horn. I added wires to 4, 5, 6, 7 positions and used a Metra Axxess ASWC-01 box.

To use an aftermarket stereo, wire *from the clock spring* as follows:

pin 4 - connect to Metra black wire AND ground
pin 5 - connect to Metra green/orange wire
pin 6 - connect to Metra black/green wire
pin 7 - connect to 12v+ switched with taillights to illuminate steering wheel switches at night
Connect Metra ASWC-01 red wire to switched 12v+
Connect Metra ASWC-01 3.5" mini jack plugs into aftermarket stereo remote control input

Programming is automatic, as denoted here: ASWC-1_INST_602.pdf

    Works perfectly!
