    My husband bought a new 2016 Toyota Tundra Work Truck edition. Love it but it came with old school key and no remote. I want to buy my husband a remote for it, but the dealer is too high. I wouldn't mind a remote start but what are my cheaper options? I can't find a youtube video for programming the 2016's yet. @Roman i heard you might b able to tell me what to do?

    Dealer claimed when we purchased that we can add it for around $270...claimed it doesn't come that way but we heard they just program it and it works? But I think it's like the ac fan, they wanted $489 to put in a new ac fan...it's about $134 for the part and 3 screws and a back bend....took 30 min but my kids could've done it easier since a back bend is involved...and it's the same fan in many Toyota models. I'm sure this is just as easy to program, but I hate overpaying dealers.

    Welcome! Ditch the dealer option. Their remotes aren't great, and remote start dies when u open the door.

    Excerpt from previous threads::)

    Local locksmith.

    Check your vehicles transmitter code (can be done via sending your serial to Toyota's customer service email or calling your local service department with your VIN if you do not have a remote already). After confirming the FCCID you can order one from Amazon for around 15-20 bucks. The locksmith pricing will vary, however there has been some guys on here reporting about 20 bucks for 2 fobs.

    Unfortunately, any tundra after 2007 requires a program called TechStream. TechStream is the Toyota tech program they use for diagnostic and modification to the ECU inside the truck. This program can be purchased to program everything yourself however, it's a little tricky to use (if you go this route watch a few youtube videos on how to do it- also be aware it only runs on Windows XP). TechStream can be purchased with the OBD connector for around 20-30 bucks.

    Also, welcome to the forums! Make sure to introduce yourself on the "New Members" section as we'd love to have you stick around!

    Also, I think I'm missing something...

    Are you wanting just keyless entry? Or Remote Start as well?

    Can some one help me out with why why I can’t seem to get a fob synced to my 2016 SR? I have looked up the VIN and it says it was sold with keyless entry. I understand that that is not necessarily stock on SR’s...? and it may be aftermarket but, not fobs came with it...so I popped open the driver kick panel and column trim and found no sign of any aftermarket receiver or slicing. I then used techstream and found I can’t add wireless fobs through immobilizer, not even there as an option only to add be transponders(keys). I even re-installed those for S.A.G. I can however enable my security and it does work. Since I couldn’t install new remotes, I then checked to see if the wireless receiver or buzzer were installed, neither were...so I installed them. Still doesn’t work. Is there anyone who could maybe shed some light on this for me? I have cruise control too...It seems that was part of the option with the “convince package” along with the wireless entry?!?? I didn’t have fog lights or intermittent wipers, which I added. Any help would be super! Thank you!177F605A-0423-4E19-93FC-6E10903A7F41.jpgADBD7081-C0A3-4982-8C29-5C58A7EEE076.jpg

    You should look into a Viper or Compustar remote start, keyless entry system, imo. I went with Compustar, but haven't installed it yet. Many happy customers out there, though.

    That doesn’t help with my question at all. I wasn’t asking for a suggestion of what aftermarket alarm to install. You should probably get that installed if you are going to recommend it...

    If under the Toyota specs on their website your truck shows keyless, it's not aftermarket, but stock. You need new gem FOBs and to have to programmed at the dealer.

    Considering you aren't the OP of the thread and that's whom my comment was directed at is why it doesn't help you. And why would I need to personally install something to recommend it when there are literally 1000s of other users out there saying how great and reliable a system it is which is what I based my decision on? I was giving the OP options to see what fits her needs and budget. Here's another recommendation, start your own thread instead of resurrecting an old one to get answers to your specific problem.

    Cool, thank you for the help. Is that even with the SR’s? From my frustration with some web research, it looks like it might be added by the dealer as an option? Like it was not put in the harness? And Toyota has an approved aftermarket option. Am I wrong about that? Since it says on the website it was initially sold with it?

    Sorry Man, amateur move...I did create a thread as well. It was early and I read your comment thinking it was a reply from my thread. Truly, I apologize. Sorry again.
