Well we kinda lost our shoo guy... when @bmf4069 stoped showing up so umm.

Honestly, I am slightly concerned about @bmf4069. From his forum persona, his only hobbies were Tundras, Taurussssesss, and electricity.

He was all hard up on doing good work on Iron man before he ghosted.

Anybody got some good google-fu in an SHO forum and maybe see if he’s still active there?

 

I'm kinda worried as well. He's gone quiet before, but not this long.

@des2mtn i believe you linked some struts for camper shells,
My closed length is 11.5” ball to ball, but when I’m opened I’m only around 18”, is it ok to be under the max length and they still function properly? Thanks again

 

I think that should be okay. Your rear window looks curved like mine so I have a feeling they will work. Take your time, don't force the window shut, and return 'em if it doesn't work. The main thing is that the compressed length shouldn't exceed the closed ball-to-ball length, that's when you run into trouble trying to shut the window. The compressed length can be shorter than your closed ball-to-ball length, that just means there will be part of the shaft exposed when the window is latched shut.

My rear leaf springs suck so bad. It's bordering embarrassing.

 

Ok, that makes sense, just wanted to make sure.
I’m redoing pretty much all the rear hardware; just noticed one of the hinges is shot, on top of someone using regular hardware thru the glass with no seals. The lock strikes are toast, the rods going to the rotary locks are janky and missing the clips holding into the center lock, and no key for current lock. Deep in a rabbit hole of parts searches!

 

I've only driven locally on my new springs for about 200 miles but I can confidently recommend a set of HD replacement springs for everyday driving duties. The ride is better than before, not stiff or harsh. I have not put weight in the bed or towed yet but I expect it can only improve from the weak stock springs. You could also consider going to a twist handle with cables to the latches instead of rods. You can open it from inside by just pulling the cables; that's what I have.

My blue Loctite arrived in a red container. Makes sense.

 

An Epi isn’t that bad IF you find the right one. Usually you have to go through a few of them to find one with a decent low action setting that doesn’t buzz. If you do, replace the pups with Burstbuckers or Custombuckers and you have a decent instrument.

I’ve got a Les Paul Studio I bought used but unboxed for $800 and put in Burstbuckers. Sounds great!

The next acquisition on my list is a used PRS in good shape.

Yeah, I have checked out a few and they seem to be good for the money. From what I have heard the older ones have bad pickups like you say. I'm just browsing for now, I started playing acoustic 2 months ago and made the mistake of playing a friend's 70's Gibson Les Paul, now I'm itching for an electric but not a $7k electric.

 

Woah. This is interesting.

 

You can find usually find a good deal on a new Les Paul Standard at Guitar Center during Christmas season for around $2k on sale. I’m not that lucky since I play lefty.

 

I am definitely planning on contacting them. Did you discuss any lift options with them?

Let me know when you add some weight to them. I rarely run empty. My shell is a pig by itself.

 

Thats different. Long ago a different guy built the first short bed single cab, it looked so cool. Interestingly it was the same color.

was excited to get my new Kenda tires today....but Fedex dropped one tire off and left. Haha, guess the other 3 will come monday. Still waiting for the wheels to be shipped so I guess it doesn't matter anyways
