So these are available to option from the factory. Pretty cheap too. Anybody run these vs stock? What are your feelings on them?

I did the upgrade recently with new OEM rotors. They run in the mid 80$ each set for front and rear. There is a significant improvement. I love them. Much better stopping power IMO. The key is to follow instructions on the initial break in after installation. You run the truck at 60+ MPH and do a hard stop (no locking) just before the ABS kicks in, release completely at 5+ MpH and repeat about 9-10 times (as I recall) to break them in. More or less heat treat them, otherwise the material will stick to the rotors and need to be cleaned and repeated. My installer worked on race cars, so I had him do it. They have worked flawlessly since. Instructions come with the pads.

I didn’t like the feel of what I had either and this corrected it.

Do they last longer? Or at least last the same as OEM?

I heard the same or better. IF you break them in properly.

I read a post last week about someone who had installed these pads and quickly thought his rotors were warped. what I think happened is the pads were not broken in and left material on the rotors. When you don’t, the pad is initially sticky when heated. and if you come to a complete stop and hold the brake, some material sticks to the rotors. You have to clean the rotors and do the proper procedure. I think the pedal movement could have been from pad residue and not a warped rotor.

They don’t come seasoned. They come with detailed instructions. And a bit of a warning about Choosing your spot to break them in. You basically have to get the rotors And pads HOT without coming to a complete stop and releasing the pedal while it’s still rolling so they don’t stick. It’s race car style breaking in the pads. Hard breaking from 60-65 mph down to 5-10 and repeat immediately 10 times. My driver went 11 for good measure. The rotors were blue and you could hear the crackling when he got back. Then you let it sit until they cool down and then good to go. They are hardened. I live in the city. He did it on an extended two lane off ramp with a turnaround. He said he got a few looks.

TRD performance pads on stock rotors wear faster with proper break-in compared to my my stock pads. Used 2 sets in my 2008 Tundra and installed them on my 2014 a few months ago. Well worth the performance though

I was thinking of getting the Z36 kit but I think I'm going to end up with Toyota rotors and the TRD pads.

I Don’t know if it still applies, when I work for Toyota I was told that no Toyotas come with semi metallic pads. The reason is they don’t want noise or excessive dust. I haven't worked for Toyota in many years but when I did the brakes on my 2014 Tundra I could tell that the OE were not semi metallic pads.

Aftermarket companies use semi metallic compounds in their pads to achieve the same stopping power as Toyota’s original equipment.

Just did a brake job on mine. Stock pads and Centric rotors. Couldn't be happier. Got 75,000 on my front set of factory pads. IMO, TRD pads are overkill and wear out faster. Always felt safe on the factory pads. Even towing.

The pads I used looked like they had metal in them. I used the old part #. I think they have a new part #. The old one's were cheaper and I liked them any ways....

You can see the metal (copper looking flakes) in these. At least, that is what I took it for.

Bought these earlier in the year when they were doing a big sale on TRD parts/accessories. I just put them on 2 weeks ago and so far I happy with them. I followed the break in procedures based on the included instructions and have had no issues. Great stopping power, better than stock.

Have had the TRD pads front and rear for about 2 weeks now. Stopping power and bite feels good but so much dust! I feel like I'm driving a German right now

Did you “season” them with the hard braking passes? I had mine done and notice the opposite?

Mine is in the body shop to repair rear bumper and side panel, but I will have a look when I get it back. I replaced the rotors with pads and have been checking to see how much dust they produce and find very little. I was finding a lot esp inside the wheels before.

I tried them on my f150 10 years ago with hawk pads. They wore just as fast as the mid grade centric rotors and i always had noise issues with hawk pads. I may have been an outlier and they offered to replace pads with something else at the time. I ended up pulling the rotors after 30k miles and slapped on centric premium rotors with akebono ceramic pads, been good for 7 years. I may try slotted rotors on the tundra when due but wont spend money on cryo again.
