It’s not for me, it’s a friend of mine.
Really interested in a 2007 Sequoia. Same engine as I have.
Any drawbacks to the Toyota SUV line of that era?

Frame rust and... I'm at a loss to think of anything else. It's basically a tundra but they demand less money and I usually see them with more miles than tundras.

My wife was asking about them for her next vehicle but we'll likely need to look at the gx470 or the 2nd gen sequoia to get something with less than 150k. She hasn't driven a 2nd gen yet and I think she's going to realize they will make my 06 double cab feel nimble to park in some ways.

Yeah. An 05-07 Sequoia has always interested me. They were super High Dolla when new compared to the Tundra same years. Now, they can still be had for less.

If I was a camper guy this would be the way I’d go and remove the rear seats on both rows. More space vs camper shell on the same platform. Less build out to be done, as well.

Still checking around on these in for sale sections.

We bought my wife one. It’s a great rig. It’s a completely loaded up limited with the 2nd row captains chairs. Every bit of work was down by a Toyota dealership. We bought it with a little more miles than I was comfortable with. It’s at the miles where we’re putting money in it to keep it nice and reliable but that to be expected with a used vehicle.

frame rust and makin sure the timing belt and water pump were done on time. The only thing that seems to give trouble on these is the air suspension and the back glass sensor for some reason

I feel like I'm the resident 1st gen Sequoia fan boy around here, can't help but love ours.
They are just so solid and great for a family, or a camp setup like PHM said.
Rear coils, rear disk brakes, boxed frame are a few of the differences to the Tundra.

Besides all the normal maintenance items to check over like rust, timing belt, fluids, the Sequoia likes to go through rear hatch handles. Mostly from people pulling to hard on them in the cold, is a plastic tab that breaks. Check that the rear window rolls down all the way too.
Those things could just knock the price lower if it's a clean rig.

Got a picture? Good luck to the friend!

That one looks clean! Nice find. Most of the 1st gen Sequoias here in Knoxville are on the rougher side but I do see a lot of them just like the 1st gen Tundra.

@FirstGenVol thanks man, we looked at several before deciding on this one. Found it on Facebook marketplace and drove to Memphis after it.

@AV8R4AA the truck has given us no problems, everything we’ve done to it has been preventive maintenance. It was in super good shape when we got it and it’s only proper to keep it nice. I think the only thing that don’t work is the drivers side power mirror lol. Just tell your buddy not to be afraid of higher miles but keep in mind maintenance needs will be popping up periodically the higher the Miles

My wife has an 07 as well. We love it, damn thing even has a center diff locker, very well equipt. Comfortable rig, fits a queen air matress in the back without 3rd row seat installed.

My mom also bought one new in 02 and has not had a single issue with it ever.

Frame rust is the big one. Leaking sunroof, mirror motors, and rear window issues are also areas of "concern".
