You will be able to rest lumber, pipe, kayaks, loading ramps and whatever else you want on your tailgate without cracking the top. The cap attaches to the tailgate at 9 points to distribute even the heaviest loads evenly across the top and inside.

**The added weight will cause the tailgate to come down faster. It is recommended that you help the tailgate lower gently until the cables support the weight.**

Are all the screws countersunk? Wondering how it would work with a bakflip cover?

 

All but the 2 outermost screws on top are countersunk. The way Toyota assembles the tailgates, makes those 2 hole locations very difficult to predict.

You can leave those out if desired, there are still 7 other screws holding it together.

Should work fine with any bed cover/shell. The top is completely flush with the bedside caps.

 

You intend to make Al vs steel version of this?

 

Yes, a lighter duty V.2 is in the works.

This was one of my favorite mods for my Tacoma. I noticed the little lip is removed like the stock one has and it's just flat. Can you provide some pictures of it from the rear with the gate closed @WSDMetal ?

This. Looks like there's a decent amount of interest in an aluminum version, including me.

 

He said he was having some issues getting the aluminum version done, I much prefer no product then a sub par product. He knows there is interest and I'm sure he's still working on it, there's just issues on the production side that we don't see.
