How many bolts do we need for both plates? 1.5", 4" what? Assuming no other plates need to be dealt with.

Screwd seems to only carry the 3/8 bolts. Yeah, the frustration with this is real.

Check the build link in my signature.
At the end of the day, you're still just discouraging the "smash and grab" tweaker with a battery sawzall. If someone is gonna hit your truck with a full socket and box wrench set, and has the time to use it, then you're going to be filing an insurance claim either way...

I 100% agree, that is why there is no guarantee with my product. BUT that being said, 99.999% of the time it is smash and grab

i am pretty sure im going to keep using the bike alarm. I always back into my driveway and can stick it on the tailpipe on my way in through the garage, then take it off in the morning during my morning smoke. works well for me.

realistically, with just the 3/8, nobody is going to be able to bend the steel plates down far enough to get a saw in there from the front.

I understand that bolt choice isn't going to affect the percentages much. I'll get the screwed that fit then some of the more common HD style for the rest of the bolts.

I can tell you from experience, NONE of the plate I sell well bend by hand, it is why I discontinued the 1/8 aluminum. Even if they unbolted one side of the plate, they still won’t have access

This plate seems like a great idea with all of the theft going around, but what are the chances this will reduce the life of a catalytic converter if we cover it up this way? Will the catalytic converter run hotter with this on?

So, in my own testing, when I have had customers from months ago arrive to get the rear plate installed, I always feel the plate under the catalytic converters, it has never been hot, the holes in the plate with the airflow through the engine compartment seems to do the trick. If it would get hot on my truck it would discolor my powder coat or damage it, I have put thousands of miles on my truck with the plates installed and never seen anything to say it would cause issues

I know that powder coating is an option, but for those who purchased bare metal has anyone tried painting with something like Rust-oleum truck bed coating or rubberized undercoating. Seems like these would be an easy and low cost solution with some durability. The only thing that gives me pause is the applications are for less than 200F. Though from Tyler's previous post this may not be an issue. I actually used the Rust-oleum truck bed coating on the stock skid plate on my old 2007 Tundra TRD offroad. Seemed to work well, but I never contacted anything with that flimsy plate.

My early plates before I had powder coating, most of the plates were spray can bed lined, I saw one about a month ago and it still looked good

honestly it is much simpler for me not to powder coat the plates and I don’t make money on powder coat

Thanks Tyler. Good to know. Did you use a self etching primer before the spray bed liner or directly on metal?

They pretty much said they scrubbed it let it dry and bed lined it

For those asking if these plates are compatible with the RCI front plates, yes. I used the existing RCI hardware (they use a carriage bolt), just loosened them up and slid the Valhalla plate underneath. I got the drivers side tightened up easy enough. I think passenger side I’m gonna loosen up front hardware enough to get to passenger side. Rear plate will mount up fine, however I have to move something before I can mount it up. I have victory 4x4 sliders and there are no issues mounting the rear plate with them. 4E9FEE73-6B77-4E4F-A834-85F6A0AAECEC.jpg

It isnt magnets, the magnets are attached to the alarm to make mounting on the metal exhaust easier. Simply slap it on anywhere metallic on the exhaust, which is 99.9% of it.

This is not a bad idea... I am sure even with the plate some tweaker would cut the back exposed cat before realizing they can’t get to the other side! The bike alarm is a great poor mans solution.

Update for all those waiting on powder coated plates, my main powder coater was supposed to do one more batch for me before he shut down to move to another shop, he shut down without doing that... I have 3/16 steel front cat plates at my other powder coater. My other powder coater recently down sized to his garage while looking for a new shop to work out of. So if you are waiting on powder coated plates, it will get done, but it may take a bit

Hey Tyler, I ordered on the 10th. Any word on when the plate will ship? I know you are swamped, just a ballpark will be fine

I don’t know if this is going to help anyone but w the RCI front plates w carriage bolts I managed to get to the passenger side bolt through the wheel well. I removed the splash guard w a trim removal tool. Jacked the front up to give more room in the wheel well (might have just been easier to remove wheel) stuck a mid deep socket with a universal joint and several extensions to snug it up. Very much a pain in the ass. If you don’t have the RCI or I’m guessing the pro plates you won’t have the same issues. Other than being a tight fit to get wrenches to Tyler’s plates fit great.
