Thanks, got these ordered too! I don’t like the idea of cutting into my factory wires either. This is the way to go.

Yep. You can solder those connectors instead of crimping, but I’ve been remaking my own harnesses since 2011 so I like having the crimper

Just ordered some OEM wiring connectors and terminals... we’ll see how long they all take to show up. I’ve got some ideas brewing.
Also got ship notice on my tow mirrors. :bananadance:

Will you need a similar type harness if you change to LED bulbs in the front turn signals also?

The Auxito bulbs I bought did not require resistors for the front signals. Ironically enough, the Auxito bulbs came with the resistors that I re-purposed for the rear signals.

Do you have a link to those bulbs too? Thanks. I’m still waiting on my connectors to get here.

I haven’t bothered to swap those tiny little things. I didn’t want to have to pull open the front of the fender liners to get to them. If I finally decide to zip-tie my fog light mounts to tighten up the shake, I might swap those little bulbs at the same time.

Added an EWD to the Bed Light installation post that shows how this integrates into the cargo light circuit and how the switch is wired.

Hey Jimmy - I missed your question.
I ended up getting the Boost Auto ones with the paintable caps. Not cheap (I went for pretty much every option possible), but they actually just showed up yesterday and they look very well built - every bit as solid as the OEM ones I had on m 2008.
I dropped off the caps at the painter yesterday for him to do them color-matched to the truck. And I'm waiting for the wiring terminals to come in so that I can actually run the power fold wiring as though it was factory. Look for a full write up here as soon as I get everything rounded up.

    No worries!
    They look great!

Which light option did you select? Dotted? Strip? Smoked?
    Strip with switchback?

Can't wait for the write up

    Door Edge Guards installed
I picked these up recently through Sparks because I don’t like the idea of leaving the leading edge of my doors available to chip or mark when I open them up in a tight parking space (it’s bad enough I gotta worry about someone else’s door marking my truck). My wife has them on her Subaru Forester and they’ve done a good job of keeping her doors looking nice.

The part number (specific to Lunar Rock) is PT936-34171-26

The interesting thing about these compared to ones I’ve seen elsewhere (including those on my wife’s Subaru) is that these are actually stainless steel that is bent to shape and painted. The installation is both a bit tedious and a bit frustrating...I had one of them (rear passenger door) that bubbled the paint a little and exposed the stainless as I was tapping them into place with rubber mallet (it bent just enough out of shape while installing). I’m also pretty sure that the edges of the inner portion grabbed the door paint pretty well as they were being tapped on - to the point that I think removing them would surely leave some scars in the actual door paint.

So, they do look good once installed. And I’ll get a little touch-up paint from my tow mirror caps that I can use to doll up the little spot on the one edge. But I don’t know that I’d spend the money on them if I was to do it over again...

and yes, I need to clean this thing badly

For some reason, I like to decide to run outside and rush through a mod about 30 minutes before dark as a rain storm is inbound. Today was no different... the door edge guards went on ok (took a little longer than I thought), but I also wanted to get the black interior door handles knocked out as well.

    Part numbers are:
    • (2) 69205-0C040 - black right hand door handles
    • (2) 69206-0C040 - black left hand door handles

Installation is pretty easy. I managed to do it myself while stopping to throw the ball for my dog every couple minutes. It is a little tight doing this without fully unplugging the window switch wiring harnesses, but I managed to do it.

Pull your door handles using any tutorial out there you can find (see my exterior door handle swap post for a link to a good one). Pop the lock and door latch cables out of the handle, then remove the two screws that secure it to the door panel. Swap in the new handle, reinstall the two screws, reattach the cables and then button the door back up. Confirm function of the latch and lock before moving on to the next one.

    Much better...

Blank caps for painting. Smoked strip LED with switchback. Power folding. Heated upper and lower mirror. Turn signals. High-output reverse lamps - I think I might power these off an independent power switch instead of the reverse lights or the cargo light like some others have done...not sure yet though.

Just got my @mattgecko LED under-hood lights installed. I went with the warm white.

And I frigging swear - the rain thing... It has been partly cloudy and sunny outside all morning. I go outside and clean off the underside of the hood and mock up where I want to put the lights to figure out where to center them. No sooner than I start to peel the tape off the back of the LED strip, it starts raining. Not a sprinkle - full on downpour. Then hail. Then some wet snow in the mix. And the whole time, the dog is begging me to throw her ball for her...

I pressed on, and got it installed.

Super easy install. The instructions are easy to follow. More than enough zip ties included in the kit to tuck things up and keep them tidy. Long term, I’m going to change out the way it is wired to the battery - I want to get some nice aftermarket battery blocks, and then put in an auxiliary fuse block and run it through that, but this works for now. I’m probably going to add an external terminal block for grounds as well, since I’ve got the camera and these hood lights both grounded down there and it’s starting to look a little untidy to me...

The included switch (which is the same one I used for a secondary switch on my factory bed lights) fits perfectly and conveniently into a hole that is already present just below the hood bulge.

Unboxed my Boost Auto tow mirrors. These things are substantial... no other way to put it.

For details on getting the power fold and reverse flood lamps hooked up, go to this post.

    Specs as I ordered them:
    • Paintable caps (getting them color matched)
    • Smoked LED strip
    • Sequential Switchback marker/signal
    • High output reverse flood lights
    • Upper and lower glass defrost
    • Power folding “truck is pre-wired” (it isn’t, but I plan on wiring as thought it was)
    • BSM signals in the glass
Waiting for the caps to get painted before I install them.

    upload_2021-2-20_12-25-23.jpg

    Update 2/22/21:
So, my plan is to wire the power fold in these up to match up with how the Limited power-fold mirrors in the Gen 2 trucks works. In those trucks, the mirror adjustment switch and power fold are all self-contained (not run through an ECU like the power fold on the 2014+ Platinum/1794 trucks). I also plan on terminating all the wires in the factory connectors to route things out to the mirrors themselves. I'm still waiting on my connectors to start putting this together.

    Update 3/6/21:
I got my painted caps back this week, and FINALLY got a chance this afternoon to get them mounted. So the mirrors are installed, as per factory TRD Pro functionality. That means the power fold and the spotlights aren’t hooked up, but anything that was already pre-wired on the truck is functioning.
    upload_2021-3-6_19-39-39.jpg

I’ve also done some more research on the wiring, and need to update the planned wiring diagrams. Near as I can tell, there are actually 1. Some missing circuits in the 2018+ EWD and 2. Some errors in the identified connectors and pin numbers (at least for my 2021 Pro). I’m going to move that info to a new post rather than keep it in this post.

So, at this point, I have mirrors that power adjust (upper mirror only), have turn signals in the glass, have defrost in the upper and lower glass, and have white smoked LED marker lights with sequential amber turn signals along the fronts. The rest of the functions I need to finish rounding up a few more supplies and then dive into getting the wiring done. I also dropped a door panel after I had hooked up the latch cables and broke the little plastic piece on the end of the door handle latch cable that clips into the door panel (it won’t correctly clip in now). It appears to be working fine, but I have a new cable on order to fix it.

Thanks so much for this post! I have some coming in from eBay and if I don't like them I know I can pick up some OEMs.

Do you think that organizer tray would work with the OEM console safe? My pro came with one installed and I'm having trouble finding an organizer that will fit with the safe.

I doubt it. If you notice the oem safe doesn’t have the trim around the console for the tray to sit on. I have same problem.

Check the build link in my signature.
Yeah, I’ve seen pictures of the factory half-safe and it seems there isn’t any good way to drop a tray on the other side. If it was me, I’d make up a small ledge and bolt/rivet it to the inside of the console and the outside of the safe down maybe an inch or so and then make a shallow tray out of some stamped sheet metal or a piece of 1/4” plywood with some sides on it so it rests on those ledges.
