Old man emu lift?

Both LF & RF are 24 1/2. Both RR & LR are 27 1/4. The rear is measured with 200-250 lbs in the bed. When I initially measured it empty it was 5/8’s in higher. Also, I have the metal RCI skid plates front, mid and gas tank. That adds a few pounds and may affect the height a bit.

Took it out today with the wife for a shake-down. City/highway streets, county roads, gravel/dirt roads with plenty of washboards and rocky forest roads with 2-4 in rocks in/on road. Must say that the ride has immensely improved from before. Wife did not complain at all and did not mind the ride. Truck felt more planted on the roads and was not thrown around as much. Could feel the bumps but they were more muted. Felt like I was in more control of the truck!

Guess I needed the new suspension for quite awhile! Almost 127k miles with 1 1/2 - 2 in blocks/spacers and original suspension. Will have to see how it is with towing a 7k travel trailer now.

Also, looking at new tires. Will buy the same BFG KO2 but might go up to 35’s. Currently LT275/70r18. Undecided yet since I use it for a lot of towing.

I tried the same 613 coils & it lifted my truck 4.5". I swapped to the 614 springs & it lifted it 4". I guess my truck is just an anomaly. I have an ARB bumper & 10K winch w/steel cable so my weight should be the same as yours or maybe even heavier. My suspension has about 2,500 miles on it so it's settled. Mine measures 25.5" DS & 25 7/8 PS now.

 

Maybe yours is a bit higher if you are not running skid plates and side steps. Just a thought.

 

looks great, even with that size tire. I run OME on my 4runner and when it is time to lift the Tundra OME and Dobinsons are the two I am looking at. How does it feel running those stock UCAs?

Think hard before you install 35s with the towing you plan to do. You may be happier with 34s.

 

I have no problem towing w/ my OME set and 35" tires.

Had that discussion with Desert Rat about UCAs. They said stock should be fine with what is being installed unless they are worn out. I do not plan on any serious rock climbing off-roading with my Tundra. We use it mostly for towing and plenty of forest roads. No over-landing. Too big of a vehicle for that.
Also, leaning towards just keeping the same size tires. LT275/70r18 (33”). They might look a little small but work really well for towing, especially in the mountainous west. The last thing I want to do is to install gearing because I have too big of tires. Spent enough money already!

 

I don’t either. These trucks have 381HP so it’s not like towing with a Tacoma, which sucked ass.

 

Happy for you, but the person I responded to was planning to tow a 7000lb trailer. With a loaded truck and that trailer it will be about at limit for payload. I have done plenty of towing with 35 inch tires and lifted trucks and when you get up there close to capacity it is NO fun and hard on the truck. 35s look great and are fun but if you tow often and tow heavy they put a ton of stress on the steering, suspension, transmission (because the trans will be hunting). Just offering that person some advice based on experience.

 

Recently got the OME 2.5" system from Boss Off-road. VERY happy with the look and ride. Going to take my time and upgrade the 31's to 33's but other than that very pleased on me 2020!

Anyone have issues with the finish on their shocks? These are my rear shocks after about 10k miles, lots of pitting with rust. Not too happy about it. I live on a dirt and gravel road but otherwise regular daily driving and weekend warrior off roading. My stock shocks didnt have any issues. I'm thinking of getting some shock covers.

Ya mine are crap too. I installed some 2” coolant hose over the rears for some protection. Fronts are pitted on mine too from road junk.

 

My rear OME's on my 07 got the rock tick marks. Hard to avoid that when off road. I just bought Toytec Aluma's for my 14. The boots are on the bottom which makes a lot of sense. Rebuildable and only $90 more than the OME's. A no brainer for me.

 

That's a good idea. The OME's are a very good shock.

 

How much total lift is the rear over the stock height? I'm only asking because I have the same rear shocks and am about to put on new leafs. I can choose my height with these leafs and want to make sure I don't over extend the rear OME Shocks! Which model Coils did you put on the front from OME 612/613/614's? Thanks! Your truck looks PERFECT!

Just saw this post/ please ignore the other. I'm a huge fan of your build. Hands down one of the best Tundras I've seen on this forum IMHO.

 

OME sells bolt on shock guards that will help with the pitting and rust issue. The part number is OME 661. I have bought them from Cruiser Outfitters in the past because they stock them.

Stock leafs with Toytec adjustable shackles.

Dakars will go in when its time to replace tho. If I keep it that long LOL

 

I have had the OME 2.5 heavy kit and add-a-leaf w/ SPC UCAs on a Tacoma, LOVED it! Way better than stock, no body roll in the mountains going around curves at 75mph. Beat the stuffing out of it for years and had zero issues. I also have the AHC delete heavy 2.5 kit sitting in the garage for my LX470, but the AHC hasn't failed yet, so I still haven't installed it... I also picked up the 3" w/ Dakkar leafs and 612 springs w/ SPC UCAs, and a Toytech diff and carrier bearing drop for my new Tundra. Just waiting for warm weather to install it. It's a good reliable system and doesn't break the bank. Local supplier I have used in Colorado is Slee Offroad. Great LC shop, I have been going there for years with my LX470.

Very new to suspensions in general. 2017 Tundra SR5 Crewmax.

Adding an AT Overland Atlas topper in June (350 pounds), DIY drawers, dog crates = 700 pounds-ish steady state. Does anyone have that much weight on the OME 2.5in Heavy Load lift kit? Thoughts?
