Just for pure comparisons.... whats the normal EGT of the TRD PRO? I recently bought one and the gauge is showing 1300 ish while driving.

    Curious.

EGT, exhaust gas temperature? What exactly are you referring to? The term EGT is normally in reference to turbo-diesel-powered vehicles. You lost me.

I had one on my 3.4L S/C'd Tacoma for tuning. 1400°-ish was considered max safe for WOT. 1300°F sounds like it could be toward high for what I would suspect is cruising speed.

Tangent: Tell us more about what you installed, and where in the exhaust stream you installed it....and maybe why.

I guess my question is WHY would you want, or need an EGT gauge on a gasoline engine without a turbo?

This won't do anything to answer your question. EGT is also measured in gasoline engines with force induction (turbo, supercharger, procharger, etc.). It's not just limited to diesel engines. Why OP would need it for a normally aspirated engine makes no sense unless he is using it for baseline tuning.

Yep, when I see "EGT", I immediately flash back to the old days of my youth. In those days, drivers had to watch their EGT gauge to keep from shedding all their turbine blades in a rather dramatic fashion.

I thought those Tundra Pros just had an ordinary 5.7L NA ICE under the hood, not one of these: :D

@Kayaking Tundra , if there's a member that can help you with bone-stock 5.7L exhaust gas temperature for tuning purposes, it'll probably be @ViktorG.

How are you measuring the EGT? Do you have a dedicated sensor and gauge or is this just an estimate from the ECU read by an OBD2 scanner/app?

Sorry for the delay, took the truck camping this weekend to see what else I wanted to buy before the real camping and floating season gets here.

Some back story is necessary. I recently bought this 2019 tundra trd pro. The previous owner out a lot of time and money into it. Part of all of this is a Kenwood head unit and and there are some features that show voltage, in temp, Load, Percent Throttle, and EGT among 3 or 4 other gauges.

All I was wondering was a bench mark for future reference. I was 20 mins on the highway when I started pressing buttons and found this... thats all.

The only thing I have planned for it eventually is a light bar and before next winter an AGM battery. But I know there are a few other things I could be talked into.

That is not an actual measured EGT, it is an ECU estimated catalyst temperature and is used in component over temperature protection enrichment strategy.
Don’t worry about that number, it is not relevant to you as a consumer.

Thanks!, I was thinking something along those lines, I didnt see any performance mods, so I would know why someone needed that info.
