I am feeling pretty lucky in my situation (even luckier with my trade) but it seems to have gotten even tougher in the last month across the country. That chip article came out recently about how all car manufacturers are having issues getting the chips they need from the semi conductor industry and seems the dealers are taking full advantage of the market.

Curious about the special order comment - where did you hear that? I placed a deposit for a Lunar Rock allocation a couple months ago and no fuss was made whatsoever - high volume dealership in a large market that maintains that I'll get it. The agreed upon price was $500 under MSRP in my case, but I won't believe that until the final paperwork is signed. I would pay MSRP, but never anything over that.

Not sure if that’s right or not but one of the dealers told me the TRD Pro allocation is very low for dealers. They get 3 a year. No clue what larger, higher volume ones get. If they are out of their allocation could be why they can’t order.

That would make sense. I remain dumbfounded by the lack of clarity and consistency across this process.

I thought so too based on information from this site. Here's a pic of the rear with the 1" Bora's installed.

Does the ESP still drop in with the wire in the middle section? It has that metal piece covering the wire hardness, no? Still got to be careful when cutting the foam?

Yep, still drops in. There's a white plastic piece covering the harness on my truck. I followed the cut lines only and I contacted the top of the plastic harness cover and was nowhere near the exposed wire.

There's currently only two in port heading out in my direction and both are reserved already. They said they can try and order one to be built for me but bc of covid and stuff it may not be that easy. Yeah like I said last year they were everywhere. This year tundras in general are far and few

MSRP with no extras for me.

My understanding is that Toyota sets the production numbers at the start of the model year for trim and color, and possibly even the port options.
“Special ordering” really is trying to get allocation of one that matches, or the dealer trying to do a dealer trade with another dealer that has a matching allocation heading their way. I’ve also been told that each dealer only gets 1-3 of these trucks for the whole year in the “special” color depending on their sales volume, so that’s why so many either charge a high markup or won’t take a deposit...or will take a deposit and then try to jockey the system to get one.

I feel like I got lucky. Last year this time you could find AG Pros with relative ease. This year, you’re hard pressed to even see a Tundra on some lots. I did a LOT of emailing and calling across a very wide geographic area, and when I did find one I moved fast... so I had the money the OK from the Mrs. before I ever started looking.

And with the ‘22 announcements due at some point, you may find demand slow as people get excited for the new truck... but if any of the rumors about engines in this new one are true, there’s also a high likelihood that any Tundras left are going to be in high demand as well.

Yes, no clue if true, but was told they only get up to 3 TRD Pro allocations a year.

When I heard the same story from EVERY dealer I talked to, either they've all got a pretty good line going, or there is some truth in it. :notsure:

Sweet jebus - there was a dealer out here asking $62 for an Army Green Pro last summer, but they had fitted it with an SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, Hi-lift Jack mounted in the bed using Rago mounts, and had added a bunch of OEM options to it as well... still overpriced, but closer to reasonable.

Sadly this is pretty much par-for-the-course in many parts of the country. Currently any dealer in my area with any on the lot are $10k-$20k over MSRP. Unfortunately, somebody will eventually pay it...

Demand for the Pro model was historically already high but now add in Rona, parts shortages, and the upcoming completely new platform and demand has surged. Barring a drastic uptick in production, I don’t see prices coming down anytime soon. In fact, I can some some of these sleazy dealers going even higher.

While there are still deals to be had they are going to be harder and harder to find. Almost all the MSRP dealers in my area have waiting list significantly longer than the number of allocations they will get.

These are strange times we are living in...

I got a warm feeling about how much im going to get when i trade my lunar in.
ive allready got 5000 miles on this
i trade at around 20/25000 miles.
This is year last of the 5.7 and the fact that those production numbers for this year are going to be lower than all the rest of the years is covid awesome
I think this will be a win-win for me LOL I love me some Tundra!
I got to say this is my third Tundra I have never been so impressed with the trade in values on these trucks. Bar none the best ever and I’ve been in the car business since I was 16 in some shape form or fashion. I just hope Toyota has a good drive train ..That’s the scary part LOL.

Wow...I rarely change vehicles. Last one was 12 years and 300k miles. Planning on this one taking me close to retirement with close to the same. I’ll have what part of it I financed paid off within two years, and at that point I’m using it to get me everywhere.
