What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Loaded her up with what appears to be around 1200# or so of tile and old linoleum. About an inch and a half from the bumpstops. Really need some new Leafs.

 

About an inch clearance on my bumps means approx. 1200lbs. so your estimation is close. Report back on the actual.

Do you like those Hankooks? I had those on my truck before before and thought the were a good all terrain that didn't break the budget.

 

I'm torn. They are quiet, have a rugged-ish look. Traction off road is just ok. I had a set before these for 52k miles and then a belt separated in one of them giving it a noticeable howl and wobble on the highway. But 52k is solid for an all terrain, so went back with them. Only $114 a tire is hard to beat. I fear that one of my tires has a belt separating again.

Separated belt on the last right hand third of tire visible. 52k and not even on the wear bars yet! Sadly, my dad's hand and lower leg modeling days are past him. But great help in the shop!

I changed the rear diff oil today. I could have sworn the video I watched years ago said to not worry about the amount, and just fill until the fluid starts to come back out the fill hole. Well, the manual states 3.1 quarts and I put in 4 without thinking. It seems only 3-3.5 quarts of old stuff came out. So I pumped some of the new fluid back out. I'm guessing the fluid needs room to expand and that's why it actually holds more than the manual states?

Anyone remember how much they put in?




I also replaced my old drain and fill plug because The Mangler had rounded the edges off the old ones.

Just swapped the HIR Bulbs back in the Reverse Assys. I’ll roll with them for a while and report later with any problems and long term feedbacks.

 

Good to know. I did the same with the T Case and front Diff. At 4 quarts it wasn't even overflowing yet so I'm surprised the manual states 3.1. Could be a typo like the transmission.

 

Drove to the car wash; saw the line hanging out in the street and quickly drove home to have a beer and wait another day.

 

Like EL said, I fill till it overflows.
How did the old fluid look?

 

I also fill until it pours out.

 

It was surprisingly clear as it flowed out. I think this fluid has around 20-25k on it. Lucas dino oil.

HEADER UPDATE
I found a local company to coat my headers; I’d rather give my money local than “THE greater PHOENIX AREA” sorry valley cats, after the gas it isn’t worth it. I had my friend weld on my reducer cones and VBand flanges from Monkey Fab Garage; super nice flanges that have a copper crush ring to seal the surfaces. Next I will order my cats and have flanges welded on those as well as the straight pipes to fill the spots of the cats; I’ve got flanges up until that point. Hoping I can not need any from there back.

I had to put down some new puddles and grind them as flat as I could by eye. From jba the aip block off was ground down to almost nothing and I didn’t feel confident in it sealing to the head.
There were lots of buggers and slag inside the tubes, collectors, pretty much everywhere. So I ported as best as I felt comfortable and wire brushed the insides with a fancy 3/8 snake cable and a copper cleaning brush attached to a drill! I’m a lil OCD so I tried to clean everything up as best possible before the go to ceramic coat, also these are definitely not 304 stainless, maybe 409 if I’m lucky, flanges are definitely mild steel.

I may have gotten partial chub when I put an air hose down each tube and felt the pulsing suction........it’s gonna be super fun once these are installed!

Nice attention to detail. I read a few others had to file their JBA ports like you. Didn’t realize it mattered until reading the pros discuss it. Clean work is key to success.

 

Yep long tubes, yes air injection pump delete; haha early this morning I was like **** I’ve got to order one of those kits too!!
I just picked up a AC install that should cover the rest of parts

 

I’m debating keeping the SAI or deleting. Headers will happen probably spring time... long tube, out to 2 magnaflow cats, then x pipe out to dual tips out the passenger side. Tips easily removed so I can have it protected if I play offroad

 

Yeah I tried to “port” as best as I could without getting myself into trouble.
One side has one connection with a weld after a 90; and I peeped my flashlight and saw a lil “hooker” I didn’t get all of it but mashed it or smeared it best I could. I know it’s not perfect but I’m sure it helped; there were lots of slag welding turds inside the tubes that I knocked of with a brass “drift”.
My welding and grinding isn’t perfect but neither was theirs which was kinda sad.
My welder friend was super impressed with the Vbands; I’ve never seen them/ used them, he said they are the kittens mittens.

 

V bands are amazing, quality ones that is.

 

Haha I’m pretty much on the same path, but relovable cats, and almost wanted to do a bed side dump before the tire(I have sliders so it’s hard for me to picture them dumped below the frame!) not sure if I want or can keep them high and tight to dump out the rear

 

Oh I’ll make the cats removable and the tail section so I can work on things easier

 

I need to find one more for dam TRD tip though.
