E- brake cable slack

    Just thought, it may be working great, but it may be only holding at the passenger side wheel. Put the E brake on and jack the truck up. See if the driver side wheel spins freely.

    Good call. You very well could be right. Once the three feet of snow we have melts I will do that.

    Decided not to wait so I shoveled out a spot underneath and checked it out.

    This is what I found.

    BOTH 'levers' on the back side of the brakes moved fine when I pulled on them.

    What was stuck was the middle lever on the axle that the brake cable attaches to. It was sticking pretty bad but still moved. What I found was that if I pulled on the drivers side cable, it would go loose and the passenger side cable would go tight, and stay tight, and vis versa. It looks like it is the main cable that is loose and its just the sticking center lever that makes it look like its just one side. Looks like I just need to clean and grease that lever and tighting the cable.

    Your post doesn't make any sense. You refer to the right side as the driver side (driver side is left) and then refer to the other right. (?)

    The first thing you need to do is make sure the bell cranks (the curved metal piece that the cable connects to at the wheels) both move freely by hand and spring back in place when released. Then make sure the center pivot on the axle moves freely by hand. If any of those are bound up, the parking brake won't work properly. If all three move freely, then still apply some grease to them as a preventive measure.

    The ‘Equalizer’ hinge is not specified in the FSM as a moving part or even addressed as part of the important adjustment process. Make sure it is not seized.

    Sure thing. You are welcome. Since snapping this picture I discovered the ‘Equalizer’ is an actual pivot point, as well. It should articulate. Mine was frozen on the pivot and thought it was designed that way. The FSM doesn’t cover that part as moving. There are two plastic bushings that were eaten up on mine so I lubed and replaced them. Also lubed the pivot pin.
