Million Mile club

Are there any members on here that have a Million Mile first gen?

If so what do you consider qualifies?

To me it has to have the same head gasket from the factory that wasn't touched...
but that's just my thinking...

What are your definitions?

 

Your not going to get very many responses on this. Try 250 on 500k.

 

I only have about 140k on my 04, so this "milestone" probably is a long way out for most of us.

As far as what defines a million miles, The odometer does a pretty good job of that.

A blown head gasket should not reset anything. Even a new motor does not reset milage in most places.

 

I agree with @bassman417 that it's the total of the odometer, not the original parts. But Toyota can probably get you there with almost all original parts anyway. I had almost 500k on my LC when I sold it and it was all original minus regular maintenance replacement parts.
I wanted to go for the million but the wife grew tired of its "legendary status" and wanted a Highlander to zip around, so it had go. I wish I could've kept it but I didn't
have enough space for 5 Toyotas at the time.

 

Used to be most domestic vehicles crapped out prior/at 100k. Foreign/Imports lasted a little longer into 150k.

Looking back, I never thought I’d have a daily driver that still drives just as good if not better than new at 175k miles (near 20 years old)!

I feel like she is in the bonus rounds right now. If she goes another 50k, then I’m more than happy.

 

Mine just went past 350k.... shooting for 500. Engine is strong with this one, body and frame good, suspension rebuilt. Should be able to do it. I had an '88 yota pickup (3.0L V6) that went over 325k and would still be going strong if I hadn't rolled it a couple years ago. These trucks seem to last.

Edit: 30,000-ish miles a year is my average.

October so far has been my biggest month.


The rest of the months aren't far behind except when I was on furlough due to the Rona

 

I can't take any credit. The previous owner gave it to me with 346k.

 

Friend at work has a f150 with 115k and the truck is falling apart. He was dealt with leaks, front hubs and brakes replaced, new exhaust and cats, alternator and battery and all sorts of crap. Just out of the shop last week and now the truck is making a banging noise in turns. So, I think the late model Fords still crap out at about 90k miles. He has a 5.0 engine.

 

I put about 30-40k a year when I drove a company vehicle and that sucked, I couldn’t imagine putting that many miles on my personal vehicle every year. Let alone that’s a lot of driving, I would get oil changes every month

According to the dash cam statistics, since Mid-May of this year I've driven 15,947.13 miles.

Grand total of 553.82 hours behind the wheel since May of this year. I can't see the statistics for December yet because the month isn't over.

When pops bought the truck it had 38,000 miles.

Mine are orginal engine, and tranny, it ain't supposed to be easy getting to 1 million

 

not a 1st gen, but there's a guy up in Canada with a 3rd gen with over 750k km/500k mi

last I read about it it was just regular maintenance

I'm sure we all know about the 2x million mile 2nd gens & that all these Toyota trucks/SUVs are similar as they use many of the same engines/parts for many models and years

 

My 2001, original owner has about 94K on it now. The only repairs were both O2 sensors in the ex manifolds. Regular service such as oil changes, trans services, coolant flushes, tires, and brakes. I am just now shopping for new shocks on all 4 corners. 1 timing belt and H2o pump at 75K. California truck, zero rust and still looks relatively new underneath. Not too many miles I guess, but it's been very reliable for the last 20 years, even the paint is still good even though it's always lived outside in the SoCal sun. Good job Toyota.

The original engine lasted till 920k, two sets of ball joints and it still has the original transmission.

The fact that this is even a question is why I bought a tundra.

This is one of the stories I remember reading, There was one more that I was reading about a few months before that made me start looking at the first-gen.
Also, the Jalopnik article helped too.

I still think head gasket should be the standard for judgment on a million-mile car, anyone can replace engines every 1000 miles if they wanted too...
Reading about the 2nd gen that Toyota bought and took apart to examine it seems like that is what standard they used.
But to each their own i guess.

I bought my 2000 extra cab 2x4 limited V8 new, now have 225K , just did 3rd timing belt and WP , tie rod ends...had 2 T100’s ( 1995 & 1998) This Tundra is the best truck i have ever owned...no plans on selling... i do my own oil every 3500-4000 miles..i just can’t ware it out!

My buddy has the same issue with his 15 f150. He’s had to have major engine work twice since crossing 100k miles (turbo / exhaust related). Sounds like the trans is also on its way out.

 

I rarely see super high mileage Fords. I see lots of super high mileage GM trucks. 300k plus is not uncommon for the old Vortec 5.7's and the newer 5.3 LS's. Engines have been traditionally solid for them. Transmissions, meh. Of late all the get-better-mileage tinkerings like cylinder deactivation has hurt the reliability. That's why these Tundras last so long. Simple, well engineered, and not a jump on the latest trend company. Slow to roll out technology, I'm guessing to make sure it's right. Hell the third gens still have 6 speed transmissions!

 

My dad's F250 7.3PSD is at 290k and ran good until my brother botched an UVWH job and caused a cylinder to get fuel washed and scored.

My Tundra just crossed over 250k and it has no mechanical issues on the original driveline.
