Hey all, I'm having some issues with my 2018 Tundra while using the 4x4 low gear, don't know if anybody has issues with getting the low gear to engage.

I was in a little bit of snow this weekend in the mtns. and had it in low 4x4. It was beeping like usual, but then the Low and the High indicator lights were both on simultaneously (usually it's one or the other). But in the low setting, it feels like the high gear is only engaged. When I switch it over to the regular 4x4 High setting, the beeping stops, and the high light is only on. Has anybody has experienced anything like this? I would appreciate any thoughts and troubleshooting guidance before getting it over to a service garage. It's got 46k miles and only used the low setting probably less than 5 times.

It shouldn't ever beep in the first place. Were you stopped in neutral before putting the selector to 4lo and then waited for it to engage?

It has always beeped (like no seatbelt) when in low 4x4. Yes, was in park (not neutral) when switched over.

I have spent a decent amount of time in 4Lo.
Definitely should not be beeping.. pretty sure you have to be in neutral, not park.

Give it a shot and see how it goes trying this approach. The lo gearing is very noticeable if properly engaged

If it’s beeping “like normal”, you’ve never actually been in 4wd. Beeping indicates an improper gear transfer and is not normal.

I use 4HI regularly, but never needed or even tried 4LO. I'll give it a try soon.

I'm guessing there are safety measures in place to prevent throwing it into 4LO when driving? Either it doesn't engage or the knob doesn't turn ?

The safety feature is what happened to OP, it beeps and flashes and won't shift itself.

    Gotcha, thanks!

Time to find some snow and test out 4LO. Shouldn't be too difficult, being November in Winnipeg.

well, I've been doing it wrong all these times. You're right, beeping means you did not do the sequencing correctly. I put it in neutral (not park) and clicks into low gear- does not beep.
While in Low, it does say VSC Turned off, Pre-Collision Brake System Unavailable.
I'll just take the 2 slices of Gordon Ramsey bread and stick em over my ears... :sandwich:
Thanks all, really appreciate your quick responses.

Your visor has a piece of paper showing you how to engage 4 hi and 4lo. For anyone that doesn't know that. Now you know.
