Had the bike out for a short ride yesterday. Would prefer ski season to stick around for a few more weeks

Nice man. I ordered a street triple a while ago. Still haven't gotten it from triumph. I'm itching to ride though. Is this over in PC?

It looks like I might have the ability to visit Moab for 3 or 4 days in July, I don't have any firm dates yet. I'm hoping to do some mild wheeling and possibly camping when I go but am a little overwhelmed when trying to research trails/permits. My truck is completely stock and I'm trying to avoid tearing it up as its my DD (I'm looking for ice cream runs). Any recommendations? I've been looking at TrailDamage.com but having trouble locking trails down I want to hit. White Rim trail is one I'd like to do.

Read up on Twisted. Those guys are everyday wheelers out there. They have really good descriptions on their trail ratings and will bump you over to TD for directions and guidance. If you're stock I wouldn't venture over a "level 3".
    http://twistedjeeps.com/site/recommended-trails/

As far as camp sites go, I highly recommend venturing out of Moab just barely and spending your time on 313 which is technically part of Canyonlands as it's SOOOOO much less crowded. (I don't share many of my favorite spots but check out Cowboy Campground/Horse Thief Campsite off 313 or the Shafer Campsites. These are my top picks and the ones I return to regularly. Shafer is really cool if you can get one of the sites near the lookout on the cliff.

This is my favorite site because it directly connects the campsite to Moab using a super simple trail called "Gemini Bridges" (as seen in picture) 45 mins. or you can take the highway over 30 mins. And because if you wake up before sunset and go to the site of entry to the dirt trail you can witness one of my absolute favorite views in the world (as seen in picture - Picture does not even come close to doing it justice).

Let me know if you need any help. I'm down there about 2 times a month.

Shafer trail and Hurrah pass are good places to start with a stock truck. As Joe said camping outside of town will be a little quieter than trying to be close. July and August are busy but much quieter than the spring and fall months. People don't like the heat. If you're true car camping select a spot away from the roads. Anything on dirt you'll get dusted out all day. Hunter canyon in Kane creek is ok for a tent. You can get back away from the road/dust and it's a short trip to town. Spots are in a narrow canyon which is nice and offers shade but if you have crap neighbors for a night everything echos. Trade off for being close. If you can, plan your trip for all weekdays or try to arrive on a Thursday for a weekend trip. The line of cars coming in Friday's is getting crazier by the week. The last couple weeks have been insane. It's like someone threw a switch and town is packed. Sadly Monday is my last day in Moab as I've accepted a new job but as your trip gets closer feel free to send a PM or post here with questions and I'll help with what I can.

Very good information, its looking like I'll be able to be there the 19-22(Wed-Sat). So far I'd like to hit the Shafer trail, Long canyon road, Gemini Bridges and a small portion of the White Rim trail. I'm not an experienced camper so I'm really debating as to whether I want to try and tackle camping for a night or two or just rent one of the cabins at a local commercial camp sight for the duration of my stay.

@FlashCulprit, can I just show up at one of the camp grounds you mentioned and stay or do I need to reserve in advance?

If you're not an experienced camper. I reccomend looking into possibly staying at island in the sky campground. It has bathrooms and adequate space. Plus it's near the ranger station in case of emergency. Gives you all the right necessities to succeed in camping. Don't cave in to cabin unless you spend excess of a week out there.

Good catch. This is where understanding blm approved camping outside of campsites is important. Haha but that's a gold mine I'll take to the grave. Plus, I don't trust people to pack in pack out. :smash:

Ten4, thank you. I'm hoping that July will be a little leaner on visitors. I hear people don't like the heat. I'm still working on getting dates and times confirmed. Once that happens I'll try and reserve a campsite close by if possible. Can I set up camp early and then leave it to explore or is that frowned upon?

Not at all. If you reserve there campsite it's like renting a hotel room. You own that property for time you paid. Hell... I encourage it to keep someone from trying to jack a spot off of you!

Would you believe me if I told you that St. George is just the tip of the iceberg? Haha within another hour you have 4 state and national parks. We're spoiled in this state.

Yeah. You shouldn't have to worry about that... I usually leave my setups regularly. People kind of have the same mind frame you do. So it's real nice as far as people wanting space and wanting you to have your own.

New guy here from SLC. Just picked up a 17 Limited GMG a couple of weeks ago! My first truck and have loved reading on the forum and learning about the Tundra. What a great resource... Been here in SLC for 20 years and absolutely love it. I live close to the mountains and can't imagine living without them close by.

Ah, beautiful area! I'm currently in the Liberty park area but looking to move up towards Millcreek/39th east.

Gotta love the views from up that way!

Yea they are nice. I'm right off 39th and about 27th east, so we aren't too high up but we do have a good view.

Jealous man. It's a nice area. Especially for the cost of real estate and proximity to everything. Hopefully we'll be neighbors in the next year or two.

    Hey Colorado!

I'm planning a trip to Denver from Phoenix in mid-July. Denver area for an event for my wife's birthday, and probably 4-5 days of overland style camping.

We're primitive dispersed campers with pretty much full self sufficiency for about a week and 300 miles without services (onboard fridge, air, hot water, RTT...)

I'm looking for interesting routes nearish to Denver and maybe up the Rockies. We run trails from high speed desert blasting to narrow Jeep trails with rock gardens and lots of scratching.

Any peticilar areas near Denver we should focus on? Would also love to group up with others interested in overlanding for a few days.

Still, we're going to Moab May 26- June 3, so same questions apply above. Just replace Denver with Moab.
