Does a supercharger setup have to be so expensive?

Hey fellas. So I recently came across a used TRD supercharger (sans fit kit) and Thought that actually isn’t bad price wise.

The fit kit is pricey. So I thought to myself why is it so much? We did a water to air intercooler on my buddy’s c5, there really isn’t anything to it. A pump, a couple clamps, a couple hoses, and 12v. That being said it is a dedicated drag car.

I’m FFV so from what I read I could keep my existing injectors, existing fuel pump, remove stock intake, replace with trd supercharger. Figure out airbox adapter. Probably a few vacuum hoses somewhere in there. Looks like it gets an additional idler. Apart from the intercooler Pump and plumbing, what other hardware is there?

I am assuming an OV tune to run 91.

I realize I am making it sound simple. But am I really that far off? I don’t know what I don’t know so people that have installed this please chime in.

I know I could beef up the fuel and make way more power, etc. But to keep it cheap I’m just trying to figure out the gotchas. I don’t know what I don’t know.

No, you're on the money. I bought a used supercharger for $3k that was missing a bunch of shit, but had most of it. My oil lines and stuff I fabricated myself, if the blower has the coolant ports coming off then it's just what you said. There's a coolant crossover pipe that would take a bit of work to fabricate. Mine didn't come with the TRD intake so I made the Air raid my truck came with work with it.

I'd look through the installation manual that's online and find what pieces the used one doesn't have and if you can make them, sounds like you can make most of it yourself.

Maybe I’ll call magnum on and find out what a rebuild costs on a trd blower. No sense buying one and having it fail immediately afterwards. At some point the break even point just isn’t there.

Probably need to buy from magnuson or find used:

    Coolant crossover pipe
Idler pulley bracket ( and pulley)

    Get aftermarket:

Charge air cooler/low temp radiator/heat exchanger/intercooler...whatever you call it
    Coolant pump
    Coolant resevoir

There are two hard lines, forgot if they are coolant or oil lines.. you can probably fab these, other than that it is soft lines you can peice together.
    And of course... a tune

The lines contain coolant and run down to the oil cooler, if your truck has one (not all do). My secondhand kit was missing them and I was unable to source them, so I used heater hose.:sawzall:
