Anyone have a Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX in a 2006 Tundra?

First, I'm a newb here, so go easy ;). I searched, but couldn't find what I'm looking for. I see people who say they have the head unit I'm looking for, but not confirmed on a 2006.

What I've got: 2006 Tundra Double Cab SR5 with factory stereo (not JBL version)

Question: I like the specs on the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX. Best Buy and a local shop say it'll fit (but haven't been able to confirm they've installed one). But Crutchfield says it won't fit because the unit is
7.195" deep, but the factory-removed space is only 7.151 deep. That's awfully close, though.

Has anyone successfully installed the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX in their 2006 non-JBL Double-Cab Tundra. If so, any issues with fit (like sticking out)? And did you figure out a fix for that?

BTW, open to other head-unit recommendations for my truck. But I'm looking for Wireless Carplay, removable faceplate (for security) and ability to use both front/back cams. Thanks!

I think it will fit. I have the factory JBL headunit sitting here out of my 06 DC. Its 6.5" deep. I currently have an Alpine Single Din with CD Player installed using a Metra mounting bracket with a pocket. I also have an Alpine KTP-445A 4 channel amp stuffed inside the dash behind the Single Din Alpine headunit. The Alpine amp behind the headunit is 7-7/8"W x 1-1/2"H x 2-9/16"D

When I installed speakers in my 06 DC Crutchfield said a lot of speakers I liked would not fit but after taking the door panels off. It was obvious I could have gone with some of the speakers Crutchfield said would not fit.

    Welcome to the forum.

A simple HU swap isn't that hard to do yourself.
Just get a wiring harness for the new HU.

I'd buy it from Crutchfield and do it yourself.
If it doesn't fit, they have an awesome return policy that will only cost you $10 to return.

I believe Crutchfield will wire a basic harness to the HU you buy for a small fee.
No reason to have a shop swap it.

There are several more YouTubes on replacing your HU in your 2005/2006

If I can do it, you can do it..

Both of these are really good feedback. Thanks to both of you.

Still hoping someone also can weigh in who's been able to install the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX into their '06 DC. Crutchfield's $10 return fee isn't a huge deal if I can't get it to fit, but would like to avoid the hassle of getting one that doesn't work and having to return it. Worst-case, that's what I do, but if someone's tried this, could save me some churn.

A lot of times Crutchfield will say something doesn't fit because it isn't 'plug and play'.
You'll find a ton of door speakers they say won't fit, but they will fit with an adapter.
Sometimes you have to fabricate or modify things to make stuff fit.

    I can't remember why I didn't get a double DIN for my 2005.
I don't think they were that widely available back then...

Hopefully someone will chime in and answer your question.
I can understand not wanting to deal with the frustration of ordering a HU and then finding out it didn't fit..

If you can suffer through these 2 dorks install video, they fit a double din in a 2006.
Maybe watch it muted and fast forward quickly though it since these 2 idiots are very irritating..

I'm not saying these are awesome youtubes, just showing some have done it..

    Good luck...

Yeah, they're not saying it's the double DIN (X/Y, or face dimensions) that's the issue, but the *depth* of that specific H.U. I know double DINs will fit in there, just wondering about that specific one. Thanks for the vids and the tip about turning off audio :)

I don't think you will have any problem with .04" clearance since I stuffed an amp back in there behind the head unit

Sounds good. I’ll give it a go and update the thread once I get it installed (or not).

    @squishy

I have the 7" AVH 4500NEX and JL12w6 in a SINGLE CAB. I stand before you with my (2003) as proof its beyond doable. You just need to route the excess wire loom accordingly. Will likely get a soundstreeam double screen for mine. Not sure where you live but I'll sell you my 4500NEX (I want to try the alpine ILX)

Awesome. Thanks, Ohana, and for the offer to sell yours. But, I got an insane deal on a 4500NEX and ended up buying one earlier today, so I'm gonna go ahead with the install once it arrives.

Yea it's overall a really solid purchase. I highly recommend taking advantage of the dual front cam input. (as well as back up cam) but I'm a total nerd when it comes to that techy stuff. The weblink software is total garbage (may be better with Android). Otherwise enjoy!!

Where'd you find the deal at? Im curious so I can potentially pull mine and try out the the SSL infotainment set up

OP, I was going to suggest the Kenwood I have in mine but I see you are looking for Wireless CarPlay. My Kenwood unit only supports wired but the deck is only like 2.5 inches deep since its a media receiver no CD/DVD unit. Made installation easy peasy lemon squeezy. I even had enough room behind it to install a 4ch mini amp for the door speakers.

Ohana, I have a buddy that got some sort of discount through the Passport card via Panasonic directly. Don’t think they allow signups anymore, but he had an account already and was grandfathered in. Basically, it’s not generally available, but I happened to get lucky.

Just to close out the thread, since I'm the OP, the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX fit just fine in my '06 Tundra. Thanks for the FB. Not sure why Crutchfield reports it as not fitting.

Right on. Anything can work frankly. How far you're willing to go is an ultimate question. I've got a 9" alpine now and selling the Pioneer 4500 NEX
