Suspension setup sanity check - 2016 Tundra

    Hey all, long time lurker and new member here. Finally created an account and have been bouncing around asking some questions in other parts of the forums and wanted to run some of my suspension setup plans and questions by the community before purchasing anything. Any and all help or feedback is most appreciated. I have done a lot of research and scouring the forums to "double check" this setup, but again, before I pull the trigger on anything, wanted to see what you guys and gals think.

    I purchased my 2016 Tundra in February of this year and absolutely love the truck. I had come from a Tacoma which I had done of minor work and mods to myself (Bilstein 5100s, AAL, 33s, etc.).

    I knew that after some time the mod bug would start to itch and I'd want something similar out of the Tundra. I did like the look and off road capabilities of my Tacoma but always felt the bigger tires were a little too much for a daily driver and the v6 it had in it.

    My plan was to do Bilsteins in the rear, either with coachbuilder shackles or a block/spacer over the axle and run Bilsteins up front in either the highest or second highest setting. After some time, I took a closer look and measured the ride height and it seemed quite high. Apparently the truck already has Bilsteins on all 4 corners and 1.5" or so blocks in the rear. So that settles that, she's lifted already.

    I wanted a little more lift, especially out of the front as the truck sits now with a slight rake. I was thinking what I could do is get upper control arms (been eying up the JBAs) and move the front struts to a lower setting AND add a spacer lift up front. That would, in total, bring the front up maybe .75-1" and take some of the tension out of the compressed springs up front. I can already feel like the front is compressed.

    Depending on how the truck sat with the above done, I may even add shackles to the rear.

    Does that plan make any sense? Open to suggestions and thoughts on it.

    No stacking of lifts, nothing good will come from that. If you already have height adjustable coil overs in front you can not add a spacer too. If you need to go higher than they will adjust you will need to look at a different, higher lift kit.

    Is there a reason I couldn't return the front Bilsteins back to the stock ride height setting and use the spacer/level lift with them? This would essentially be like using a stock front strut with the added benefit of not having the spring so compressed by being on a higher perch.

    You are not supposed to stack lifts. I am pretty sure that even at the lowest setting those adjustable coil over still lift the truck a bit.

    Spacer lifts also do not ride well- plenty of info on the forum where folks installed them and ended up moving to adjustable lifted coil overs for better ride and handling. If you already think things are under tension up there a spacer will make things much worse.

    Gotcha, that makes sense, especially if there is already a slight lift at the lowest setting.

    Thanks for the link, I'll give it a look. I guess there's a reason I haven't seen anyone running the setup I had in mind!
