Is it possible to upgrade my audio system for about $1000 and have a good sounding setup?

I'd like to keep all the functionality (camera, steering wheel controls, bluetooth mic, etc) but upgrade the system and have it sound good.

What would you guys recommend as far as specific items to get if it's possible. Thanks

Would you consider keeping the head unit?

I’ve read multiple people say it’s garbage. Is that not the case?

The amp under the pass seat is the problem

Here's my setup, with factory HU. Factory door speakers, sub and JL Audio c1 tweeters in dash. Also it's non JBL system.

The head unit is going to be your big ticket item.
If you are ok with keeping the factory head unit you should easily be able to have a nice system for 1k. You could always swap the head unit down the road.

Line Out Converter (like a Lc7i)
    5 channel amp
4 sets of 6.5" components w/ speaker adapters
    1 10" sub in a ported box.
    Amp wiring kit

I'd definitely recommend going through tech12volts. I did a complete system through him for right at 1k. I did keep the head unit with the mindset that I could always change it out later pretty easily. The new system sounds SOOO much better, even with the factory HU.

This is a realistic budget for a conservative full build. I went buy once cry once approach and spent $2k on a full setup from James at Tech12volts. Kenwood HU with wireless CarPlay, and JL Audio amp/speaker package. Throw in another couple hundred for sound deadening material and a couple days for install and you’re all set.

Yeah I’m probably in the $2400-$2500 range all in including sound deadening.

A "good sounding setup" is not only ambiguous, but it s a pretty subjective way to put it. It really depends on your expectations. One also has to consider upgradability. Will you be satisfied with you end up with? Probably not. Will, what you bought, work if you decide to go bigger/better...there s a lot to consider.

Thanks for all the replies. I definitely have some things to consider going forward.

@jwatt yea I realize "good sounding" is relative and broad but to me it just means quality of sound overall and some bass. I love bass but I also love quality sound. I don't need to blow my doors off with the thump. I'm not a teenager anymore LOL!

you should email james at tech12volt (tech12volt@gmail.com) and see if this is still available.
    https://shop.tech12volts.com/product.sc?productId=574&categoryId=137
Even if its not, just let james know what you are trying to accomplish and let him know how much you want to spend. He will do what he can to make sure you've got the best bang for your buck. He's gotten more of my money than i'd like to admit.
