So I had the wife's 2013 Corolla S in to the dealership for some recall work today. The SA called me up when they were done and said they noticed that the timing cover is starting to "sweat". They claim the seal could be starting to fail and they recommend that I keep an eye on it. They also very helpfully let me know that it I wanted to get them to replace the seal, it would be about $2100.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this? How much of an issue is it? What exactly do I need to keep an eye on other than puddles on the garage floor? If it does get to the point where it's leaking and needs to be replaced, is that something I could do myself?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the stupid questions.

I also can't seem to find a diagram of the engine online so I can't even figure out where to look to find this sweating.

There’s a chance it’s seeping oil from the timing cover/head/block meeting point.
    It’s right by the tensioner

Or the timing chain tensioner is seeping oil. The tensioner would be a cheap easy attempt to fix the oil deep. But if it is indeed the cover seeping, ignore it. Plenty have it happen and they’ll go 300k miles with it never getting bad. Over time it just looks worse because it seeps out and no one pays attention to it

my 2002 Celica is caked back there with oil, my timing cover gasket has failed as well as the valve cover which is usually the first to go regardless. I don't have any pooling issues on the garage floor and it sits in an incline..... I'll attach a link to some gaskets, it can be done in the weekend, but you may need all the patience in the world for that timing cover gasket as space is limited.....
