I was wondering the same thing. But his setup looks a lot cleaner than mine. I got this one off Amazon and it works well, but my key fob taps against it when driving. You only notice it when the radio is off and the windows are up, so only a minor annoyance.

The P3 is awesome though, way nicer than any I’ve used in the past. And I think they make a model even nicer than this one now.

It's looks great, which is why I'd really like to try and get something similar set up in mine (a 2015 Tundra). I really prefer not to have it sticking out like most people's P3, but I'm wondering about the manual brake knob.

I really can't imagine having time during an emergency stop to take one hand off of the steering wheel and manually apply trailer brakes. I mean, isn't that really the whole point of getting an electric brake controller - so the trailer brakes automatically when you engage vehicle brakes?

    Am I missing something?

I once had a brake hose fail in a F350 PSD towing 12k pounds with an expensive piece of equipment on the back. Pedal went straight to the floor at 35 mph. Damn near slammed into the back of a power company bucket truck. Got it stopped by using the manual lever on the controller and throwing the gear selector down to L while standing on the parking brake.

It’s also helpful to be able to test the brakes are working properly before stepping off on your trip.

Until you need them and then hopefully it is second nature to grab for the knob,so to speak!

The whole idea behind the inertia sensor braking like in the P3 is to mimic the pressure that you put on the pedal with your foot and the Prodigy just does this so much more seamless and naturally than the cheaper Reese that it is impossible to explain almost.

When in an emergency situation the lever can be your best friend!
I use mine in an emergency panic stop like when someone cuts me off while trying to stop quickly already and also while feeling sway or slipping with the trailer connected judicious use of the lever can almost instantly straighten the whole rig out.

I agree it is a stupid looking install in the dash like that and I see no compelling reason to try one but having access to the while Prodigy is not something I ever want to live without now that I rely on mine!

I did make the decision to block the manual brake option. Of all the years towing, I have never once needed to use the manual option, so I bit the bullet on the install. This unit has been so good about brake pressure and adjusting that I would prefer to let the controller be smarter than me.

This is one of the reasons I use the saved settings as well. Being aware of load, I make sure the controller boost settings are adjusted. I also use anti sway bars which make a difference.

however, with the same option with the wife’s 4Runner, I did not make that decision. She tows a lot less and may not notice when things aren’t right. I 100% agree that it isn’t the safest way to install it. I probably would not make the same decision with cheaper controllers.

Have you guys heard of trailer emulator? It help you test the IBC without having the actual trailer. It was talked about in another ibc thread and I asked the poster but he never responded.
