Hello all new to the forum.
    I have an 09 SR5 Crewmax.

Recently took it to dealer "Friday" 7/3/2020 Tranmission fluid change and my 4x4 hasn't worked in quite some time so i figured id have them run the diagnostic testing. actuator motors worked just fine and they were bone dry and rust free figure its electrical. trucks never ground or slipped at all.

Well they run 4 hours worth of testing only to tell me its my ECM, so i order one and go one my marry way. Go get new times then head north to grandmas house to fix her AC. well get that fixed go to leave and truck is stuck in park. only way to get it into neutral is to push the button for the manual override. making an awful grinding noise and she wont go into any gear. call a tow truck get it towed back to the dealership. Get the call yesterday "Monday" 7/6/2020 around 5pm they advise me its my transfer case and rear diff. quote me roughly 4000 for used parts and labor and advise they had 0 to do with this issue. Said that in Lew of the towing all of the diagnostic work would be covered... "holiday rate wasn't cheap to tow her 80 miles" 7/7/2020 get a call saying that the tech who worked on my truck Friday was no longer with Toyota. and they are asking if i want to get the parts ordered or not. meanwhile ive called numerous mechanics and another Toyota dealership and they are just scratching there heads asking how it went from electrical to mechanic in the snap of a finger

sorry for the long story. wondering if any of y'all have dealt with something along these lines before. I have a feeling its all just super bizarre timing but at the same time I just have a gut feeling something happened.

yeah, I would say call corporate.... There may be a reason that tech is no longer there, and you may have been one of the last victims.... odds are they didn't put in any gear fluid or well below the minimum.... so I'd squeak a lot, since the squeaky wheel gets the grease...

I had issues with the only Toyota stealership in a 100 mile radius when I blew the water pump at 25k.... first thing I did was call corporate for guidance since I had already had a bad experience with my other car at this spot... so they gave me the go ahead and dump water and limp it to them, and they would deal with it... long story short they refused work, they blamed me for what ever the case may be and the truck ended up being towed to a separate dealership 200 miles away for qualified work... lost the truck for about 3 weeks while they went back and forth and ordered parts... After this I started having electrical issues...

As a current ASM at a Toyota Dealership, something doesn’t sound right. Have you spoken with the Service Manager at that dealership?

Also, we’ve let several techs go during my time with Toyota. While it mostly comes down to the local leadership (TMNA does not involve themselves in technician employment issues), I can tell you that I wouldn’t focus on that too much. Techs are let go for a large number of reasons and reading too much into that will probably just make you paranoid.

That being said, it doesn’t sound like to me the dealership is being completely forthcoming. If you’d like to send me the details of your situation, I’d be happy to review it with our shop foreman who has been working on Toyota’s for 35 years and is honest to his core.

jhamby, the Service Manger finally got back with me over a week later of my formal complaint. I ended up taking my truck to my local mechanic and he diagnosed it is the transfer case, he said that it was not fully engaged more like half / 3/4 of the way engaged and he believes that is what caused the issue. send me a email cooped11@me.com and i can give you better details.
