I had identified the truck spec I wanted.....found truck but didn't rush to call dealer....then I did and between the time I saw the truck on their website and Monday they had stuck a stupid lift on it, stupid tires, ugly ass leather trim and another $15k on the tag in it.
    Idiots.

I hope it sits there unsold for another bunch of months.

They just did that here to a DC that I was looking at. Added a leveling kit, wheel and tire pkg (32.8's), step bars, and tinted 2 windows and jacked the price up $6K. Then texted me asking if I was interested. I told them I wasnt paying 6K for a $300 leveling kit. Some idiot bought it the next day.

There is no love lost between me and Toyota of Cool Springs.

Last vehicle I bought there, the finance dept added $1200 to my total amount financed. Just randomly. I freaked out on them. They said, “oh, someone must’ve done this thing that accidentally made us more money” or some kind of BS like that.

I will NEVER shop there again. Even if a new Tundra were priced several thousand dollars less than any other dealer within 500 miles.

I will drive that 500 miles out of spite.

Good to know. I’ll avoid. I think my next round I’ll give Groove Toyota a shot.

For clarity’s sake, here’s what ToCS did to me. I worked out a final OTD price with the sales rep. He kept asking me what kind of payment I wanted, and I kept saying that I don’t care about that number, just the OTD number. So, he asked how long of a loan I would want, and I said that I don’t really care; 60 months would be fine. Well, the sheet he put in front of me had 48-, 60- and 72-month repayment options; each option had a monthly payment range underneath. I kept telling him I am not interested in talking about a monthly payment. I wanted to agree on an OTD number. Which we finally did.

    Or so I thought.

I went back to financing with my sheet, and the finance guy starts putting all these papers that I have to sign in front of me. Something feels weird. He is moving very quickly, pointing at numbers and telling me “my job is to make sure this number matches this number,” “please sign here,” “initial here,” etc. and something just feels off. So I stop and ask to see the first page that I signed. He digs it out, and there at the top, is my total financed amount, and it is a little less than $1,200 more than what the salesman out front and I had agreed upon.

I got my sheet out and said, “I’ve been baited and switched here. Why does THIS number [I point at the loan contract] not match THIS number [I point at my sales sheet]???” He sputters and puts on his “very concerned” face. After a few minutes of him looking over it, he suddenly flashes a look of sympathetic understanding and says, “Ohhhh, I see. It looks like they [it’s always someone else!!] entered your trade-in value incorrectly.”

What REALLY happened was that my credit was so good that I qualified for a lower interest rate with the bank they used, and my 60-month monthly payment for our OTD amount fell below the payment range that the sales sheet had on it. So, in order to get me up to a monthly payment that matched their sales sheet, they added nearly $1,200 to my total amount financed.

I am glad that I caught it. How many other people don’t??? I will make sure in the future that I don’t deal with ToCS or with any other dealership owned by the same people.

You have to sort of go with the market as far as picking out accessories to dress up a truck. Yes, there's a lot of chrome on the truck, but in our area there are still people who prefer chrome. Probably 90% of people want the chrome off, but there are guys still out there that want to be shiny. :D

I will tell you that the dealers set the payment amount and interest rate, not the lender.

@Terndrerrr - very similar experience heading that direction, but sales people picked up the no bs tone I was dropping. They asked me the same how long/what payment/bring out the numbers sheet crap. Flat out told them they're a salesman, and they already had me sold on the truck for the price, I'll talk to finance person about the numbers. When my credit score came back the sales guy came back out and apologized and got me into the numbers guy.
