GOTCHA! I had the displeasure of driving a 2020 Silverado for just over a week. Let's just say I was underwhelmed.

Good news is that I am getting the Tundra back from the body shop today!

What were your big takeaways from the Silverado?

    • Just walking around the truck and looking at the body lines/panels, they don't line up quite right.
    • The tailgate felt like I could crush it with my bare hands.
    • I know most people say the Tundra interior is outdated, but the Silverado interior was too busy and felt like they just put buttons wherever they could. There was one button that automatically rolled down all the windows, but you couldn't roll them all back up with the same button. Some people may like that "feature", but I didn't see the point.
    • I'm not a fan of the the auto-shutoff feature on any vehicle.
    • The suspension is also really stiff and you could really feel every bump in the road.
    • Overall, it didn't feel solid. Like I would need to start replacing stuff within 2 years.
    • EDIT: Also, most of the black plastic on the exterior was already starting to fade. It's a 2020.
This is obviously from my biased point of view. No offense to anyone that has Silverados, I just would never buy one.

I test drove one prior to buying my 2020 Tundra, and the 'busyness' and stiff suspension were my takeaways as well. The Silverado feels like a poor man's GMC to me. I mean, there's a reason that the Silverado *BARELY* outsold the Ram last quarter, and it's not just a testatment to how much the Ram has improved.

    Not nearly enough room here!
My favorite features on GM's are the obnoxious 2 horn blasts of the horn and how the reverse lights come on, when doing anything with the remote! o_O To be fair, both of these could probably be deleted but I don't know ONE GM owner who's had it done!

Can I ask you a question about you tow mirrors.
    1. Did you buy the truck new and have them put on from the factory, or were they on the truck when you purchased the truck.
    2. How is the visibility out of them.
    3. Do they obstruct your view outside the drivers window due to there size
    4. If they are aftermarket mirrors that you put on, then where did you get them from and how steady are they, are they made well - durable
    5. do you have them because you tow a travel trailer - if so how well do you see the trailer and traffic.
    6. what options are in the mirrors - heated - blind spot monitoring - directional - running light

Sorry for all the questions. I am about to place my order for a 4x2 TRD sport Quad cab and I was going to add the tow mirrors from the factory. I live in New England and I can't get a 4x2 in this area. If I can't get the factory tow mirrors because of the packages I want then I will get them after market, but there are so many options on the after market world.

Thanks for any info you can give me. I will hopefully be ordering my new Tundra soon.

    1. Bought the truck used and it came with non-tow mirrors.
    2. Visibility is great. Don't think I could go back to regular mirrors. Especially handy for backing up.
    3. Does not obstruct my view.
    4. They are aftermarket mirrors. I actually bought them from another member that totaled their Tundra. They are from 1A Auto. They have been very durable. If you go to the link in my signature, there is a url for them. They do vibrate a tiny bit while on the highway, but not so much where it bothers me. Like most on here, I am pretty OCD.
    5. I tow a utility trailer from time to time, but I really got them because I like the look of tow mirrors. I also knew I wanted to add puddle lights and the tow mirrors gave me a little more room to add them.
    6. I think they are heated, have running lights, and turn signals. I think you could get ones that have more features like power folding etc., but your Tundra would have to be already wired for those features.

You won't be disappointed with a Tundra and tow mirrorrs are the way to go! Easy to install if you don't end up getting them installed from factory.

His look very similar to the Toyota tow mirrors but the knockoffs from 1A Auto are probably way cheaper.

My coworker and I each baught new trucks about a year ago. In fact we purchased on the same day, July 6th, 2019. He purchased a 2019 Silverado and I, of course, got the 2019 Tundra. His has been in the shop countless times, including today. He went in today for multiple reasons and only one was resolved which means he has to go back yet again. On top of that I think he's had two or three recalls.

On the other hand my truck has only been in the shop once and that was for the 10,000 oil change. However there is a recall which has not been addressed yet.

I'll take the Tundra every time.

That's a shame. My main worry is deciding whether or not to pass down the Tundra to my son in 13 years.

You are very correct. The OEM mirrors are extremely $$$$$, the after market are way cheaper. I think that's the way I will go. Now I need to find the right truck.
