Fellas after admiring all the different lift setup from the forum I’m now ready to take the plunge. First off, I know nothing about off-roading or lifts. I simply love the way they look, but have no idea what height I should go or setup. I want to keep my current rims and tires(305/45R22 Nitto Terra Grapplers). What is the best setup without breaking the bank and needing a ladder. Who knows! I might just start off-roaring. 33C14380-42C5-4FD1-90F1-C05129B61418.jpg

Toytec Boss kit or the Bilstein 6112 kit is the way to go for the look and functionality. Both will give you the lifted look and be able to preform well off-road if you decide to start off-roading. Price point is good on both!!! Both can be had for $1000 to $1200.

    IMO I wouldn't do a lift and run a 45 series tire.

By off roading you mean dirt roads, not dirt trails with big pot holes and baseball size rocks.
if I’ve learned anything from this site, It’s “the smaller the wheel and the bigger sidewall tire is better”, than 3”or less, wide side wall tires.
You can create an excellent mall crawler thou. 3/1 lift would look and be very functional for you.

    Good luck with your build.

Yeah the 3/1 lift is what I’ve been tossing around with. OAN, I see you’re in NorCal. I’m from the Bay Area as well. We city folks don’t go off-roading. Thanks for your input.

    I had a 3/1 lift from Toytec in my first Tundra. I also had 20” wheels with 285 65r 20 BFG KO2s
The lift I bought had 700 lb springs because I had a winch style bumper (DV8) I spent about 1300.00 on the lift. You might consider 650 lb springs, it won’t be as stiff and don’t put the struts at the top settings, (if you by adjustable ones) for your truck. The pictures (my old truck) I included were mimics of a lot of trucks on this site. You may need shims that bolt on the top of the new strut you buy to keep it level,
Or not to have some take on the front compared to the back, just depends on the look and ride your going after. Looking back on my old 1794 CM , I would have done things differently. Like buying smaller rims that would except a taller sidewall. That side wall helps the ride, and cushion the ride.
I got so caught up in”filling the hole” I’m referring to the wheel opening to tire size, and how it looks. What you want and how it turns out may not be what you had originally intended to be. With your existing rims 22” ( a very narrow sidewall tire) and a stiff lift kit may not be how you want it to ride like.

My next truck will be modded quite a bit differently. I just need mo money lol.
I’ve heard this said on this site many times, “buy once, cry once”
Meaning spend your money wisely and you happy and like me change direction and spend again in a different direction. I hope this helps you in making decisions on mods. This site has many wonderful people and ideas, but pay attention, we all make mistakes. We all want badass, but we may sacrifice something to get that. That something could be an important item that doesn’t work well with the other items we bought. Bla bla bla. Hope you’re on the same page as me.
again good luck to you and your build.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that given the tires he is running he is looking to go 8" to 12". :monocle:

3/1 kit is you best bet for great look ability to fit 35s and not break the bank. That is 3” front and 1” rear to level out the truck.

I agree with Toytec Boss. Great lift and rides smooth.

@csuviper @Inquiringone I too am leaning towards this kit... seems to fit my budget and I'm a city boy anyway who only gets to wheel on the weekends. I noticed in a post here and seen it mentioned before... shims.. do I need them with this kit? I want to run 33's with the 3-1 lift and want the truck level.. just looking to clarify if they are truly needed or give some benefit over not using them?

one more thing.. on the boss kit rear end.. shackles or three leaf add a leaf? The add a leaf will increase the stiffness of the ride correct? so is this option just for those who will be towing large loads? or is there another benefit over going with the shackles. I am looking to make the street ride as smooth as possible and will not be towing any time soon

No you do not need shims. They boss are fully adjustable. Just adjust the drives side a little to get it level. That little amount will not make a ride difference from one side to the other.

Don’t do add a leaf unless you are doing the more expensive Icon ones. Shackles or blocks work just fine.

great thanks for the clarification on the shims.
As for the add a leaf... if I go with a more expensive icon setup and add a leaf am I really gaining much in the feel of street driving, or is this more for heavier off roading applications? Maximizing street comfort is an important factor for me
