    Hey guys,
My transmission has been acting funky lately. Last night when i was stopped and went to accelerate it almost felt like i was rear ended. It’s been shifting really weird too, hunting for gears. I’m wondering if it’s due to my new exhaust? It didn’t start doing it until i had it installed. I wouldn’t think I’d need a tune. Do i? Thanks for the help in advance

Exhaust work wouldn't be causing that. Has nothing to do with it, unless something got damaged or moved while installing the exhaust. Try resetting the ecu by unplugging the battery for about 15-20 min. Then drive it and see what happens.

Sounds like you need fluid in your tranny...the symptoms you describe revolve a similar issue...that or your transmission needs to relearn itself since the additions of the exhaust...more power means relearning how to drive "right."

I agree with the low on fluid thing. I had a van once that did the exact same thing he's describing when the fluid was low. I'd definitely check it. Make sure you didn't damage a line or something causing a leak when you put the exhaust on.

I can't believe that 'unlearned' transmission settings would cause what he's describing.

Thanks guys! It’s a TRD exhaust. I will check the tranny fluid and unplug the battery. It need serviced in a couple hundred miles too. So if it’s low i will have them fill it back up.

Unfortunately the trans fluid is really hard to check. Human error happens, my 2010 was overfilled from the factory

Rear-ended feeling is usually from the driveshaft slip yoke. The leaf springs let the pinion rise from driveshaft torque or drop under braking. Sometimes the slip yoke can stick a bit between the bit of idle torque and the brakes fighting against each other. Usually it'll reach an equilibrium right when you stop but if it sticks, as soon as the brakes are released the pinion pops up and it feels like someone gave your truck a love tap.

Normal for 4wd yotas, you can't regrease the yoke without disassembly. Even if you do it usually comes back within 10k miles.

Gear hunting would be something else. That's all controlled in the computer. Does it hunt with a steady foot?

Do the first things that are "free"/cheap...re-grease the drive shaft and take it in if it continues...

All 3hp your exhaust gained isn't doing that. Take it in under warranty. Tranny acting weird leads downhill very fast if it's not addressed.

Did the installer disconnect the battery during install? If so, did he/she reconnect the battery afterwards then road test driving more aggressive than normal? Disconnect the battery (fuzzy logic) for 20-30 minutes, reconnect and drove normal for approx 20 minutes.

I’m not sure the dealer installed it.
