    Hi Everyone,
I have a 2004 tundra. I’m afraid the frame is about to break due to rust and corrosion. I know there’s been various recalls for Toyota frame rust but I can’t find that my truck was recalled. When I bought it used, I was told it was under coated but not replaced. The truck is great otherwise but it wouldn’t be good publicity for Toyota if someone’s truck frame breaks in half at 70mph. Does anyone have definitive info or recommendations on this? Thanks

Yes. But you know how they are. They don’t want to warranty anything. I’m wondering if anyone has personal experience or advice on how to get it taken care of.

Hit on it with a ball-peen hammer, and look for soft spots. If you think it will fail if you jack on it quit driving your truck. Rust expands many times over, so the amount that falls off is nowhere near the amount of metal lost.
I would think your just gonna have to take the bed off and sand and paint it yourself. I am sure a local body shop can help you remove the bed on the cheap if you can’t get help.

OpieTaylor, I guess I should stop driving it then. It just sucks. Great truck otherwise. The rear diff recently rotted a hole and was dripping oil. Could’ve got a used rear axle assembly to install but I changed the rear diff fluid one last time and patched it.

I got a friend to use a MiG welder to weld up a whole on an oil pan on a Chevy 350 few years ago. Never had a problem with it. It’s more about what’s left when you stop the rust, than how hard a fix is.
