No it won't hurt your engine and is not necessary unless you're going for extended oil change intervals or operating in extremely cold conditions.

It'll help even more than a blend, cleans out carbon slowly over time...will come out Black as can be first few times....

If you do switch, try Mobil 1 Synthetic ‘High Mileage’ 5w-30. Right now there is a $12 rebate for 5qt. jugs.

You can buy the Spec’d Toy Filter YZZD-3 in bulk packs online for around $6 each.

Its recommended to do 2-3 quick changes at 3k miles per interval because the Full Synthetic is highly detergent and will really clean out any sludge.

I've run full synthetic in all of my vehicles for as long as I can remember. Had a 92 BMW 525 that got synthetic starting around 122k miles. It went to 455k and ran like a top when I sold it. Zero issues. Run full synthetic in my Tundra since I've owned it for the last 155k miles (at 255k now). When I replaced the valve cover gaskets, everything you could see inside the motor looked brand new. Zero sludge or buildup. Synthetic is very different from conventional dino oil. Do some research online from reputable sources and the science is there. It doesn't breakdown like conventional oil making it last longer, but still gets dirty. I run an oversized Mobil 1 filter (M1-301) on my 4.7L and can get 7 qts of synthetic at full in the motor. Will run 10k miles or 1 year between oil changes. Don't drive it as much these days with my work schedule. Buy the synthetic at Walmart in the 5 qt jugs for $4-5 a qt. I just picked up Mobil 1 high mileage at Walmart for $14 a 5 qt jug yesterday. Some kind of clearance.

I started running Amazon Basic Full Synthetic with zero issues. I only use Toyota oil filter (90915-YZZD3). You can get the filters really cheap on ebay. I bought a case of 10 for $59.99 and bought some new oil drain plug washer gasket (90430-12031) I currently have 165k on the truck and it runs like a dream. Here's a couple of videos of reviews.

Synthetic is best if you start using it early in the engines life, not so much if you switch over to it on a higher mileage engine (100k +).

You can start using synthetic oil whenever you like. I've started using it at 122k in a BMW that never developed any leaks or issues. I started using it in my truck at 100k with no leaks or issues. and Project Farm on youtube did a cool video on testing synthetic in an old tractor.

I just started running full synthetic (only ran 100% dino oil prior to this) at 260,000 miles in the 1997 T-100 with the 3.4L V6. Have put about 3,000 miles on it so far. Engine runs a notch smoother according to my seat-of-the-pants analysis tool.

If full synthetic nukes my T-100, well, then, I guess I'll have to fall back and drive my Tundra full time.

One of the Very best engines Toyota ever made. synth oil isn't going to take it down, lack of maintenance rarely does either....
