What's up dudes and dudettes, I was doing some shopping around and found a couple of places that offered a U-Bolt eliminator kit. Basically has 4 bolts and 2 plates that have been shaped for leaf springs. They said it's to eliminate the fear of thread retention. Has anyone ever rode these or have a possible review? I personally have never seen a lift that didn't have U-Bolts.

From what I've looked up and researched, they are weld on's correct? I mean, they do seem a bit more sturdier then just a plain ole straight bolt that's been bent ya know. Also looks like you can mount the bolts either way but if you wanted to have the bolt head on the underside, it would give ya a bit more clearance. The ones I looked at also have 3 positions for the axle. What do ya think?

    None, yet....
Jeep guys have been using these for crawlers and go fast crawlers. They are fantastic for keeping the leafs retained and there is no worry of a rock destroying threads or breaking bolts somehow. I went from perches with u-bolts to u-bolt eliminators and didn't see much of a difference ride wise. I was able to fix my pinion angle though, since they are weld on you can rotate it however you want on the axle tube. This meant no more vibrations on my jeep since I adjusted pinion angle based on axle position. It's also another method of adding lift, since the eliminator can add vertical material without using things like blocks and shims.

Long story short, they are pretty great. Been using them for each axle swap I've done on my jeep.

Yes, the perch itself welds to the axle and the top plate clamps the springs down.

If they came from a vendor, surely the vendor had to make them seem pretty sweet in order to get you to weld them to an axle.

$130 is not bad. Is this better than a shackle? @AnonVet

That's the thing, I'm not necessarily getting bad reviews, just not enough ya know. Jeep owners swear by them.

They are definitely beefy, no doubt about that. I would definitely red loctite the bolts as a security reasoning if it were me though. But very well thought out design overall.

Here's the write up from RuffStuff...

There are no U-bolts, this kit comes with 8 - 4" x 5/8" grade 8 bolts that are threaded into the wings made from 1/2" plate so you have no fear of thread retention. Test them on your springs, then cut them to length. 90FT/lbs of Torque is recommended, dab with a little Loctite and call it good. The leaf spring top plates are the same heavy duty 3/8" thick ones we use with all of our other kits.

    Price:
    $142.00
    Part Number:
    R2170
    Shipping Weight:
    21.43 pounds

I'd imagine it would be somewhat endless, depending on the type of bolt used.

Ours are the Ruff Stuff U-Bolt Eliminators. I don't think this will net you any lift because you are just cutting off the old perches and welding this one on. I could be wrong, I will look into this further though.

very interesting - would love to swap back to a smaller shackle and get rid of the bolts hanging below the axle tube.

From what i can tell SDHQ is right. This is just a replacement for the existing U-bolt.
I dont believe it is for lift at all. If it is it acts the same as putting a block between the existing spring perch and the axle.

No comparison to a shackle. Not the same. Unless it does add lift and then it is the same as block vs shackle.

I have looked for a Ubolt flip but haven't been able to confirm the axle tube size and length with Deavers to purchase. Mine are all chewed up from rocks off-roading. Thought if it gave a .5-1in lift I could go back to normal shackles and might reduce the negative spring arch with the weight I carry. The longer shackles for a bit of lift so I am not sagging causes negative spring arch at ride height. But I might just re-do the whole rear and go LT soon anyway.

Those are the same ones I looked up actually. The website was plain jane which led me to believe they let their craftsmanship and product do the talking. They offer all types of stuff, even for older FJ's and yotas. I'm going to take some measurements tonight after work so i can look into the actual specs vs ubolt perches. This seems like an application not many have dabbled with, and I'm definitely one to go against the grain.
