Just a general question. I have an Infinity Kappa 5-channel amp powering four speakers and a sub. I was just beating on it pretty good for about an hour while driving and I wanted to see how warm it was and it was perfectly cool to the touch. This is a fan-less unit...shouldn't it be warm?

Why make an issue of a non issue? Lol. Staying cool is a good thing. Heat kills electronics.

I'm not sure I have my gains up enough on the four door channels. My understanding is gain, while not a volume knob, is meant to match the output voltage of the HU to the input voltage sensitivity of the amp and a gain that is too low results in the inability to drive the amp at its maximum level. That said, I don't want to turn them up too much and damage anything. James suggested putting the gains up to about ½ and I have them well below that because I don't want to take the speakers to the ragged edge but don't want to leave too much on the table either.

All turning gains higher does is introduce possible distortion and clipping into the speakers. If it sounds good to you, that’s all that matters. What are you using as a processor to send signal to your amp?

That unit is already sending a clean, high voltage signal to the amp. This is ideal for being able to keep gains on the amp low. You would increase gains if you’re using a cheap unit that only puts out a 2.0v preout. But anything in the 4-6v range you really won’t need to have the gain any more than halfway. How did you set the gains?

The least scientific way possible. James suggested ½ and I cut it in half to ¼...lol

No voltmeter, oscilloscope or distortion detector...lol

if you want to get nerdy, download the audiotools app to your phone.

    https://studiosixdigital.com/audiotools-modules-2/

bunch of great tools and it'll let you run pink noise through your system to dial everything in. i posted this thread that talks a little about it. i'm using a TwK88 for the processor though.

Cool app. Using my iPhone 11 Pro Max mic

    1. I get a relatively flat curve using the realtime analyzer using pink noise until the crossover frequency of the sub which makes sense.

    2. Distortion was anywhere between 0.5% and 2.0% depending on the frequency - had that cranked up pretty loud.

    3. Polarity tests shows sub, midwoofers and Lt/Rt dash speakers are all negative but all door tweeters came back positive? These are connect to the door mid-woofers through a harness supplied by James. Any ideas?

My AudioControl Amp has a nice UI via a laptop or iPad app. Lets you do soooooooOOo much stuff. Time control ect..

Nothing about temps though. I rant it Hard as I could and it does not get warm to the touch. But im no where near using all 1200 watts at 4 ohms

I really like the Audiocontrol gear. Has anyone messed around with the tuning settings in the DSR1?
