Limp Mode??

New Member just looking for answers!! First of all i'm not a Mechanic nor am i an English scholar. I am however a Machinist and have some mechanical background.

Here is my Problem and the history of it.

I have a 2 wheel drive 2010 tundra with a 4.6 engine, about two years ago this problem first happened. while hunting i drive my truck thru some water on the road, not a lot but it did splash up! the truck ran fine going back to camp. the next morning, I cranked the truck, put it in drive. I notice that the anti-slip light is on. the truck worked fine thru 1st and 2nd gear. then it just seemed to loose power the engine will rev up to about 4000 to 5000 Rpm and act like it doesn't want to change gears. you can let your foot off the gas and it will change. this works for the rest of the gears also. the truck will not get past 65 MPH on flat ground.
I took it to a local Mechanic, he read the code, I'd be lying if i said that i remembered what it was. however it must not have done much good!!! After a couple of days we had to have the truck to drive one way or the other. they hadn't done anything to it. my son gets in it drives off. After paying the bill for reading the code that didn't help and the truck ran fine!
The mechanic called me a couple of days later not knowing that the problem had fixed it's self and told me that he had done some research. he had come up with the conclusion that a sensor mounted in the front quarter panel had got wet and put the truck into Limp Mode!! I told him that the problem had fixed it's self and he said that the sensor must be cracked and dried out.

Sense that time over the past couple of years it has done this a hand full of times when it rains. It usually last a couple of days and goes away. this time it has been over A week.
Can someone verify the this guy is correct? Has this sensor finally Broke and how do i find it and fix it.

Look into air injection pump (AIP) failure...

 

Don't do Anything until you get the odb2 code read. If you don't have a cheap reader, one example: (

then head to autozone or such, they read codes for FREE.

Even if there is no CEL light on dash, it could have a Pending one.

It is essential to know any CEL codes before proceeding with spending money on parts and such, don't guess or let others on here guess for you.

 

OK, I went to Auto zone the truck is throwing three codes.

P106B - Emission sys Pressure sensor- secondary air injection pressure sensor correlation.

P0456 - Emissions system leak detected ( Very small leak).

P2440 Secondary Air Injection System switching valve stuck open Bank 1.

Says the most likely solution is to Replace Air Injection (AIR) Diverter Valve. Does this Make sense? If so where do i find the part? Auto Zone doesn't show it.

That AIP fix is $2500-$3000 at the dealership. There’s a Hewitt Bypass kit you can purchase to bypass the AIP system, it works for some...

So that looks like the Fix! I'm guessing that sense they include pics of how to install it that i can do it under the hood of the truck( I have no lift).

 

Good luck, everybody on here does it themselves as far as I know. There’s also something about it being stuck open or closed that may dictate you needing a plate or something. Use the search bar (magnifying glass icon) in the top right of your screen and search for “Hewitt bypass” or “AIP” or whatever, there should be plenty of information to do this correctly yourself...

I had a 2007 that did the same problem, called SET explained what was going on and gave then my VIN# "BAMM" it was covered under a recall, the local dealership replaced the parts fee. I looked at the bill and it was $3200.00.
