    I just signed off on keeping the Tundra for at least two more years so I'm planning on showing it some love. My '06 has almost 67k miles...

    I'm getting a shopping list together for the timing belt replacement, tune up and all fluids swapped. If money allows I'll also swap out the spacers for 5100's.

    I have a friend that will help with the work that's out of my wheelhouse (timing belt / water pump) and a family member that works for O'Reilly's - any problems using Gates Timing Belt kit and accessory drive belts / water pump? It could save me some money but if I need OEM then so be it...

    Aisin is OEM. I would be OK with Gates. I use Gates for any Belt item. As far as the hard components, Aisin. Denso spark plugs are OEM

    A lot of people get the aisin kit off Amazon. It's pretty cheap too.

    OEM only. You pay a little more, but in the end no problemos. You are saving a ton DIY labor.

    Plenty of online sites where you can search and plug in your VIN and the parts will be proper.

    I just added up the totals from the Amazon links. Around $250 (including tax) for everything. For that money, I don’t know why anybody would even consider anything but oem/aisin. Forgot to mention you’ll also need the aisin/valvoline coolant with zerex (pink stuff)

    I would only use the Aisin kit. We've had a few members pop up reporting timing belt issues after going cheap. It's not worth it.

    Better double ck when ordering online to save from returning parts.
    These people send out non returned/non blemished/non factory reject parts to customers. You get the factories quality real deal from them, and no games with mfg accepting warranty claim from this retailer.

    The original water pump should say Aisin on it. Sounds OEM to me. :hattip:

    The timing belt brand in the aisin kit is Mitsuboshi. I believe that is the company that makes the T belts for Toyota. The serp belt is a little more forgiving. Choice from top down, I’d stick with bando, dayco or continental.

    If it’s a Mitsuboshi then yes it’s oem. Serp belts I’ll run anything. The oem SERP is double the price of the t belt!

    Thanks for all of the follow up(s). I’ll go OEM on the PCV, TB kit and the accessory belt, Denso on the plugs and look around for what else I’ll accomplish.

    i too am going to be doing my timing belt soon. i am going to use the aisn kit from rock auto, and septentine belt kit from dayco/gates etc. i am used to working on BMW's, where you replace everything when you do the cooling system (fan clutch, radiator, thermostat, water pump, all tensioners, belts, coolant sensors, expansion tank), but you dont here much about these items failing on the 4.7s, or members preventatively replacing them "while your in there". im specifically talking about the radiator, fan clutch, fan bracket, thermostat, hoses, expansion tank. my truck is an 05, 91,000 miles. nothing has been touched yet on the cooling system or timing belt. are any of these extra items worth doing? truck has zero leaks. appreciate the guidance on planning out this job to not have to worry about it for ahwile.

    The timing belt was replaced by others on my 02 at around 110k miles. The rad wasn’t replaced because it wasn’t leaking, but in retrospect I should have had it replaced because a year later at 124k miles the rad started leaking.

    Not sure when my cam seals started leaking, but again in retrospect should have had those replaced as well while ‘in there’.

    If I still have my truck at the 200k mark I’ll (sitting at 167k now):

    1) Replace Timing Belt and water pump again.

    2) Replace thermostat.

    3) Replace Radiator.

    4) Replace all Pulleys Bearings.

    5) Replace Fan Clutch.

    6) Replace all Cam Seals/Drive Shaft Seal.

    7) Replace Alternator.

    With your low mileage, you could do 1-3 but might want to add 4-5 for grins:D since you are used to BMW.

    6-7 are because of age and mileage specific to my truck and N/A for you.

    I’ll be ordering my T-belt stuff next week for my old girl. I’m normally a DIY’er but I also know my limits too. I have a feeling that this one would eat my lunch so I am not going to attempt it. I contacted an old mechanic friend and he offered to do it for $300 + parts. He’s a shop foreman at a BMW dealership I worked at years ago and I know he is extremely thorough with his work so she will be in good hands.

    Yeah I thought so too. I am going with new hoses and t-stat as well. He did mention to get cam/crank seals to have on hand just in case they are needed.

    That's a GREAT price. I was quoted $500-600 (Canadian, roughly $375-450 US) at a shop that gives us a discount because of our working relationship with them.

    Turns out I *need* to do mine - I'm at 347,500km (215k miles) and I can only find ONE label that indicates it might have been done ONCE ... A long, long time ago based on the cracking ...

    Thanks to advice in this thread, I grabbed the TKT-021 Aisin kit, a bando belt, OEM thermostat and gasket. That should set me good for several years, mechanically.

    It is unfortunately/fortunately not. It sprung a tiny leak on the drivers upper corner near the mounting bolt for the side rails a few weeks ago. The previous owner used the incorrect bolt which was too long which put too much pressure on it and split it. I JB welded it to get me by for the night and ordered one through NAPA with a lifetime warranty for $150. I wanted to use the Denso one but at that time the on one Amazon was like 3-4 days out. I put it in after work one day and had it done in under an hour. You have to love how easy these damn trucks are to work on.

    At least you have that. I don't have any indicators/stickers telling me the last time mine was done. For all I know, it's the OEM one with 178K on it :rofl:

    I don't know about his Tundra, but in my case, I doubt most Canadians register there. I did talk to one of the service advisers at the dealership who ran my VIN and had no records for timing belt work with the dealer network.

    The only sticker on the cover is devoid of any writing - long faded/worn/wiped or whatever over time. It's also half-peeled off ... before I even inspected the belt that told me it was probably time to change it. I got the TKT-021 kit, serp. belt, genuine Toyota thermostat and gasket for under $300 Canadian (About $225US), so it's not a huge expense and well-worth doing, especially when you factor it over 7 yrs or so. Like $40 a year for piece of mind...
