Anyone else trying to find a solution to installing a decent overhead switch panel into the sunglasses holder of a Gen 3 Tundra? From what I can tell, the SPOD panel is the only option for purchase but its price is an absolute crime (really... $520 for 6 blue buttons and a relay box?????). I'd love to see photos or hear about options that others have thought through. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve got a switch pro and have it mounted down by the shifter. You could put it up above if you wanted.

This. Just saw yesterday where someone mounted it in that useless spot by the sunglasses holder. It's like a cardholder or something.

Possibly mine. It takes a little work but the Switch-Pros SP-9100 control panel will fit in the useless card holder.

A member on the 4runner forum, Tin I believe, 3d printed a switch panel where the sunglasses go...so perhaps a 3d print of some sort and it could look near factory...though I do not personally have that as an option, it couldn't be too tough...

Commenting for future reference. It would be awesome if someone developed a stock looking overhead switch panel with a reasonable price.

I have the Spod system... love it. i like the tactile switch over the button or touch screen of the switch pro. spod is also now offering a switch pro like system.

I’m going to have my switch pro installed at the end of the month. My idea is to trim the clip(?) paper holder, whatever you want to call it that sits behind the sunglass holder and mount it in its place. I’ll post pics here when it’s done.

What do these switch panels do, do they simply provide the trigger for a relay to power your LED’s (or whatever)? I’m not grasping paying $600 for 6 switches, somebody please school me...

I know at least for the switch pro system you can do constant on, flash, strobe, burst strobe, dim lights, unit will act as a timer so after entered time of vehicle being off you can have it turn off items connected, one switch can be programmed as a master switch so it can turn on all switches or the desire number of items, also has a overdraw feature so it can work as a fuse and all these are run off a app.

I’ve got the Switch-Pros and really like it. It’s a solid state unit with 8 relays built in. 4 are rated at 20 amps, the other 4 are 35 amps. You can configure a trigger, I have the reverse wire set as the trigger to turn on the rear bumper lights automatically. Each switch can be configured as constant or momentary, I use momentary for train horns for example. Each switch can also be set to power from battery or ACC, but using the app via Bluetooth overrides this. There’s a ton of features, this video is 13 minutes but worth watching. I had a lot of wiring and relays under the hood, the Switch-Pros allowed me to get rid of most of it.

After some talk with the gentleman installing mine we both decided flush would be aesthetically pleasing. However it would be at the sacrifice of some practicality of seeing the switch. So.. he whipped up a little side mount and this was the final result. I ended up trimming the clip prematurely but I can’t see it being a overly expensive piece to replace. 81F2E8F2-4FD1-477F-993D-07ACEB040710.jpgBF9837E0-AC16-4E48-A784-BA1E99DEA48D.jpg

I wonder if you can Somehow put it inside(with screws of course) the pop down glasses/storage thing! And close it whenever you don’t need it? and leaving it open whenever you’re in need of the lighting!

I’m sure you can. I saw there was a company with a bracket option for them for the Tacoma and 4 runner I believe? That was a option that was kicked around. My only concern was the unit “flopping” or swinging with the added weight when in the dirt.

When you're hitting the trails, rocks or mud, wouldn't it be an ideal time to have it left down? Regardless, this would be an ideal OEM+ solution...

I made a custom mount in the lame envelope spot. Love it right here and works great. It was pretty difficult to make the bracket though. Here’s a photo

Yes. But that’s where the issue lies. The sunglasses holder folds down in a pendulum type motion of travel. Now add the weight of the switch pro which with its added weight will only multiply the force of it swinging off road and that’s the concern I had

Yea so around the Switch-Pros panel it’s a plastic cover. Below the black plastic I made 1/8” aluminum piece that holds the actual Switch-Pros.
