Painting chrome trim bezel around shifter

Someone should get a group buy going for these... Though I'm sure they're going to sell them by the hundreds anyway

 

Decided to paint it today..

 

While painting decided to pull the trim around the radio.

 

How hard is that piece to remove, is there a thread or step by step?

It isn't super difficult but it does get a little frustrating. This video breakdown which pieces of the dash that you need to take off to get it out.

Thanks, guys! Finished painting the interior shifter trim pieces....was fed up with the glare on sunny days.
The flat black looks sweet!
Covered it with three coats of polyurethane as well.
Doing the knob over the weekend.
Speaking of knobs...I gotta call my brother.

Installed the AJT parts. Waiting for the last piece for the shifter gate.

This is the MESO 4x4 ring

 

And instead of dropping $80-$90 on the black shift knob (which I really wanted), I taped mine off and hit it a 180G abrasive pad, then with three coats of flat black and then three coats of poly. Love the look with the other black-painted pieces in that area!

Looking clean BlueBottle. I like the red hex heads with your black interior. For all of us that took apart the shift gate trim and painted, the snap over piece would have bern so much easier. I have the 1794 brown interior, ordered the shifter surround and cupholder black with black hex bolts. Will post pics once Ive installed. Will be ordering the black 4x4 trim bezel.

What is the install like for the 4x4 selector trim piece?

 

Looks great. I ordered color matched paint a couple of days ago to give this a try.

 

Take a look here. It's not to complicated. I was able to use a 90 degree pick to press in the clips. It was basically all by feel. You cant exactly see the clips. But take a look at the like I posted. Its shows the clips I'm talking about.

 

I did the exact same thing last weekend.
Very happy with it.

I ordered the knobs (they are on the way) and preordered knobs rings and shift gate.
So glad to get rid of that chrome...

 

Thank you for the info, looks simple knowing the placement of the release clips (thanks to you). I ordered the AJT 4x4 trim before I saw the one you went with, would have saved a few bucks.

Also. If you want to get rid of the actual chrome shifter handle under the knob. Get you some heat shrink wire sleeves, 3/8” should work, slip over shift rod, blow dry it, cut off access and screw down shift knob

 

How does it come off? There is 6 plastic welds holding it together and I cant get it separated

Finnnaly got it free. I need a drimmel kit, I made some big ass holes. If I ever get those AJT pieces at some point I’ll have to glue the screws in from the back side Lolol. What paint did you use? Some say plastidip.. others just use that 2x rustoleum plastic paint.. I just want it smooth looking

 

Congrats lol. Yeah I honestly just used a bit of sticky tape because I knew I'd be pulling it back off again (cue AJT whenever he has a sale). I shot it with a couple coats of black rattle can. Matte black. No glare, no glimmer.

Is this the piece you're talking about? This one gave me the most trouble as I was afraid of breaking it. Just take your time with it. I used a 15/64 drill bit at the end. And started with a smaller diameter to begin with. Dont drill to far or you may damage it.

 

Those tabs were the easiest. I was able to use a small diameter drill bit and the tabs almost immediately broke off.
