As the thread title notes, inhabitants and visitors of Greenville, SC, beware! Shit-birds have landed. Haywood mall area hotels.

    Story goes;
While staying overnight in Greenville for business travel, I got an early call to breakfast by the hotel concierge inviting me to meet Greenville's finest.
Aside from the mess of glass and center console contents being scattered, it was raining...so I had that going for me. And best of all, my custom M&P Shield w/ Green CT laser (complete with my personally-built, Kydex holster) was nabbed up by the shit-birds.
    Yes I have a safe.
Obviously, I did not use it. Being in business clothes, I couldn't CC where I was going, so I sat it in the door, and didn't think about it last night.
Toyota's GBS did not do it's job.

Sorry for the bad pic. All the black in the seat and floor is the glass.

Necessity drives innovation. So wheels are spinning on various solutions.

Being the second time in 5 months, I think I'll be buying a lottery ticket tonight...I'm certainly feeling lucky!

Damn that sucks. I live about 30 minutes from that area. It's always been bad for car break in's. Probably a group of young punks.

    Especially this time of year.

Ditto. Damn that sucks big time. Haywood Road area is generally considered a "nice" area [I am about 20 minutes from there] -

You would think places like the Hyatt and Hilton would have parking lot cameras.

A hotel room is temporarily home. I slip mine into a brief case or small carryon and take it in with me. Both of us are safer.

I usually do. I just sat it in the door last night after I checked in. I was on the phone when I was getting my bags and walking in, and just forgot about it. And the area is a little more affluent area of north Greenville. Not thinking like a thief, I got caught. Won't happen again!

I certainly agree with the spirit of your position, and I CC nearly everywhere. However, the place I was visiting for work carrying was not possible.

Man, that sucks so bad. I hope you luck out and get your CC back, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Stuff like this is obviously low on the priority list for the PD if it's got that kind of a break in rate. :(

I've definitely thought about it...and will for sure be doing it now.
Waiting on friend to hopefully help me out on the replacement window. Cheapest price so far is $350.

I'll hope to get the pistol back, but it's doubtful.
They only hit the trucks in the parking lot(s). I think they were specifically looking for guns and any easy, big ticket items.

    Thanks man...I hope so too.
I know the police have way more important things to deal with. I'm not going to hold my breath either.

I figure that pistol will be in Chicago by the weekend, in the hands of some thug.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Distractions cause all of us to make mistakes. What I suspect is the perps had every vehicle that drove into the lot that night under surveillance during the transition from vehicle to room to size up the potential haul from each vehicle. They didn't break the windows out of every vehicle, just the one(s) with high upside. They might have been surprised, and excited, when they saw you park your CC in the door. Sounded like high-grade equipment. Sorry for your loss, man. I hate thieves.

Vehicle is an extension of your home. If life is in threat and they cross the threshold (inside). Bang!

In some cases, even outside your vehicle.
Last year (about) 5 miles from where I live; young 20 yr olds got into a road-rage incident with an older man. Got in front of him. At the next red-light, they got out and shot at him. He opened his door, returned fire. Killed one, injured the other. Older man not charged...deemed justifiable.

This story just happened about 2 miles from where I lived for the past 15 yrs. Not to derail the thread...and certainly not to get into people's feels about personal defense (to each their own), but I do a lot of root-cause analysis work. I can't help but think about what are (3) armed 15 and 16 year olds doing out at 4am, on a school night?!?!

Same question I've mulled over today...How bad off are you that you take time out of your life to break into vehicles?

I keep coming back to two main basics....Structure and discipline!

Kinda like kicking somebody when they are down. You could, but should you? I get what you are saying, and I understand it. Did it need to be voiced? Did it help the situation at all? Just sayin' that you don't gotta dogpile on somebody that is having a bad day, especially when he has already said the equivalent of "my bad. Won't do that again."

Do you have ant decals on your truck that may indicate you have a firearm in there? Was your gun visible to someone looking for it? I know around here break ins are more common in vehicles that have a CC decal or something like NRA decals, it give the bad guys an idea you may have a gun in there. Also I have to say that I think any firearm that isn't being carried should be locked up and stowed away. That's my yankee thinking lol. Not trying to insult or bash you at all, we all make mistakes, and bad guys will do bad guy things no matter what.

To reiterate...I was on business travel, staying in an affluent area. We weren't going out on patrol where I'm covering the 6 o'clock.

After I got in my room, I had work to tend to...so yea...I forgot it. Then another human thing happened...I went to sleep.

Thanks for keeping it frosty. :hattip:

I purchased cameras from blackboxmycar. Rear facing covers truck bed. Front facing covers idiots to the front and interior covers idiots breaking in. So I can see them approach vehicle and see them close up inside also. You can decide if you want audio on or off also.
