So, I pulled the trigger on new Recon smoked red taillights as a Christmas present to myself. They looked awesome! Turned them on to check the lights and signals and hit a major snag. The turn signal, brake, and reverse lights work fine. However, the parking and rear lights do not. At first, they kept tripping the taillight fuse. Eventually, I got the wiring at the parking/taillight fitting figured out so that the fuse stopped tripping. Still, no lights. I'm so freakin frustrated!! They are in essence plug and play. Makes me think something is wrong with one or both of the lights. I think these are refurbished Recons from Purchase Direct. I sent them an email to request a return. I can't make sense of this and I'm so fucking pissed. Any thoughts?

I once did a hand model shoot for some electrical lighting company (reason I retired but thats another story) so maybe I can help. I suggest you regroup by:

    1) Taking a deep breath. You will be ok.

    2) Putting old lights back on and make sure things still work.

    3) Waiting for some experts to chime in and talk about ohms testing, contact points, resistors, and the like.

I vote for 2, although 1 would be a good start. I'm not familiar with Recons, but plug and play would mean just connectors. Did you have to splice or add a component? Such as a diode or resistor?

I bought some a year ago but not yet install them. You should just plug and play these bad boys. I paid a high price thru Recon and dont expect to have issues when I install them possibly today.

$459.00. They were considerably cheaper than other websites, which is why I bought them.

No, they just plug into connectors. But, you have to plug them in the right orientation ( black wire to black wire) or you will blow a fuse.

Usually connectors are keyed or shaped such that you can't plug the wrong ones together. It's mostly dark and shitty cold damp right now, so I can't pull a tail light to look at the arrangement. I did watch a short video on the install, looks like they are entirely plug and play. If they're refurbished my money's on a crappy rebuild. Lot's of things to go wrong, bad pin attachments, bad pin installation, scraped insulation...
Send them back. You could do a visual and electrical inspection, but even if you found the problem, it's possible that you would have to buy connector tools to correct.
    Good luck.

Yeah, I've already packed em to ship back. My old LEDs went back in and functioned just fine. I'm betting they were a crappy rebuild as well.

My Recons were fine and no blown fuses no matter which way I connected them...just didn't light on the first try as it as 50/50. Where did you get them? I bought mine direct from Recon ($499) back in my old stomping grounds of South Florida.

My tail lights fell out, the tabs all broke and they just fell out on our last desert run. I'm gonna use the old tails as a mold and make my own carbon fiber tail lights. Should be an interesting project.

Got them from Purchase Direct in Miami. What's weird is that the turn signal on one didn't work the first try but it didn't blow a fuse. I just reversed the plug and it came on.
