I never thought to look under the lid. I always just replaced the main filter. I'll have a look next time I swap filters. Thanks!

I clean the MAF every time I change my filters and don't use oiled filters anymore either.

Don't thank me, I found it posted in another thread. Cleaning up or replacing that maf helps a lot. I went with the Jet maf just because

Asked about that filter a number of weeks back and a few posts following the below post talked about it.

What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

From what I understand, this intake system is only on the 05-06. Is that correct?

Yeah, shift kit and upgrade the torque converter is the current plan. The dyno guys suggested it and transmission guy agrees given the hp and torque. Going Monday for them to drop the tranny and take a look at it. Will keep you posted.

No, it's on all first gens. If yours doesn't have it then a prior owner ripped it out. I ripped mine out in 2008 because all the cool kids were doing it.

I tried a K&N intake kit a few times. Made awesome sounds but no noticable improvement on acceleration. I did notice better MPG on freeways.

I tried adapting a Volant airbox to that K&N kit. It worked but barely, I think the filter was being impeded by the box. The Volant filter must be quite a bit slimmer. I didnt like the way it drove at all.

I tried a K&N drop in filter with the stock box. Made whistling noises and didnt filter that well.

I tried an airaid intake kit with the tube and dry filter. It made noise because the tube lacks the silencer that the OEM tube has, but no noticable gain. The filter looks terribly made but seems to filter quite well.

I tried opening a 1.5" diameter hole in my stock airbox. This made a bit of noise but again, no noticable gain. I did this because a very scientific study showed that there is a mild vacuum created between the fender opening and filter at wide open throttle. The study determined that a 1.25" opening in the airbox would alleviate the vacuum. The trouble is it allows hot air in as well but probably just at idle. I have a feeling on the freeway it causes turbulence.

I'm now back to the stock airbox, no hole, and dry airaid filter.

Good info, I have been eyeing the airaid system but I have read that it makes noise but not power. I'm starting to believe spending $300 on 12 hole injectors is better than $300 on intake system.

Yup. I had got it used for $50 from a different forum, got the Volant box used for $15. The K&N is the only one I got new but at least it was on sale. If I could find a dry filter to fit I would run it in winter.

Yes, I figured they of anybody would have a dry cone that would fit since they're owned by K&N, but they don't have one. The inlet size is oddball, the only option I would have is to go up on the inlet size and wrap rubber material on tube to act as a spacer. I don't like doing stuff like that.
