Mictuning dual USB installation help..

Hello, had anyone installed the mictuning 6.4A Car Charger with LED Light Qualcomm 3.0 Quick Charger for Toyota 12-24V?

I just bought it and no instructions came with it. I'm guessing I need to slice or tap it as the plug doesn't for OE wires.

Ideally it might need a constant power cause I want to use it without having to turn the key.

You could get a fuse tap and get power from the interior fuse box. I have mine powered from a separate fuse box in the engine compartment that I use for all of my aftermarket accessories.

You don’t need to run an add-a fuse for this simple instal. I assume you’re going to be removing a cigarette power adapter and replacing it with this usb? If so, you just need to tap into the two wires powering the cigarette power. I would avoid cutting the harness off the vehicle harness, simply tap into the power and ground wire using these...

the only reason I don't want to tap the existing cigarette power is i want a constant on. In case I want to charge my phone, tablet or battery pack i don't have to put my key in.

I may have to find a fuse that has constant power or find a tap that is constant though. I'll look into the ALEDECO..

 

Like ^^ said, tap it into your cig lighter for quick and easy/lazy install. Or any 12v source of your liking. I recall most of those USB plugs I've used over the year had a glass fuse built inline anyways.

Kinda risky to want to be charging stuff while your truck is off. There isn’t much constant power inside the truck. My cig lighters stay powered on for 30 min after truck is shut off, but I think they did away with that in 2010...might as well run a power wire directly to your battery if you’re set on 24/7 power.

 

Yes, you're correct, a bit risky. I also realized that this unit LIGHTS UP cyan when it's got power! LOL Can't leave on with the car like that. So i'm going this route, https://www.tundras.com/threads/usb-always-on.6671/#post-99319. I'll just use connectors and re-use the OE plug. Easy and less risky.

 

Two phones plugged in at the same time can pull 3 amps and overload a factory circuit, I would rather tap directly from the battery, use a 12 awg, wire,there's a rubber niple right by the brake boost for running wires into the cabin.

 

When a switch has a 3rd wire and lights up like yours, it’s usually meant to be wired for it to light up when your headlights come on at night time. This is very easily done by tapping into a neighboring switch, as it will have 3 wires going into it, a ground, a power and one wire that only gets power when your turn on your lights-that’s the one you use. Use a volt tester to figure out which wire has no voltage when lights are off and voltage when lights are on.
