    Not really Tundra specific...
What do you folks that drive through lots of deep snow do about snow getting packed in your wheels?

Today was the first time I've ever had an issue. Maybe it's the Platinum wheels. Pulled out of the yard after the truck sat for two days and felt like I had egg shaped wheels. It was crazy. After trying to shake the snow out at 75-80mph didn't work I stopped and poked at it between the spokes. I got most of it off except little bits behind the spokes which eventually flung out. It just seemed odd that I've never had it like that before.

Never had that issue fortunately. Truck is mostly in a garage at home or at work. And here in CO, sun comes out and it melts so it's never a longer term issue. Interesting to see how to deal with this in case it ever comes while up in the mountains.

Happened to me on multiple vehicles, usually after purposely going sideways in snow haha. I always had to get it out by hand, throws the wheel balance all off.

It can pack in so much that it throws the tire balance off. Scares the crap out of you when you're not expecting it. I usually just use my snow brush to push out the big chunks and the rest will get thrown out while driving.

When I lived in Missouri I used to get that a lot. I would try to scrape it out the best I could because it would be in the single digits and are hoses didn't work to well then. lol

I am too cold to even look at my wheels. I barely have enough time to clear the windows to be able to drive and clear off some snow from the roof and hood of my truck so mine doesn't become a road hazard. You guys must not be that cold, haha.

I would just build a huge pit fire and jump the truck over it. Works every time.

Ok, so I would use my vehicle scraper that has a brush on it to clean the wheels out as much as possible.

Maybe spray the wheels with something? Pam cooking spray or the spray for under a lawnmower deck? May help it release better while driving.

I was wondering about FluidFilm since it's kinda slimy.

Mainly an issue if you drive in deep snow, then are parked while it freezes up. Usually much easier to clean it out immediately, even driving at highway speed should clear it out before you park. Assuming the "highway" isn't covered in deep snow and that it's safe to do so.

If you want to prevent it from sticking, I'd suggest a ski wax (glide wax) or Pledge furniture wax.

We don't usually have this issue in SE GA, but I use WD40 on a lot of stuff. When I used to race R/C (clay) we would spray our vehicles down to keep the clay from sticking and clogging everything up.
I still hose my 4 wheelers down from front to back and all underneath.
I would be interested to see if that would help. Hose the wheels down, and go at it.

I would hate to see if some of this oil people may spray on the wheels might get on the brake rotors...

That would make perfect sense then.

    It works well?

I used to do something similar to my MX bikes in craptastic weather conditions.

I plow with mine and inevitably end up with packed snow in the wheels. Usually it works itself out pretty quick, especially if you're doing a fair amount of braking, but if it stays around, by hand is how I do it.

Happened again today. I've owned ten pickups in my life and never had this happen. These wheels SUCK.
