Highest mileage 1st Gen. Thread?

Neglect? I've changed the oil a few times!
I had issues with hot spots on the front rotors, every time I would tow a mini excavator, until I put drilled and slotteds in it.

 

And another thing....I had to put o2 sensors in it and change the starter motor and the left rear wheel bearing. I put I. A spend sensor and a dash cluster and the speedo still does not work.

 

That is damn cool! Now you get to keep driving this stallion. Keep it on the road, how does the truck look today?

 

That’s a good looking truck and odometer. We like your plan for the truck. Does your uncle have any other 1st gens he wants to give away?

 

With around 600k on my 01 access cab. With tundras, mileage is not an issue under 300k.
Has anyone ever had a timing belt break?
And if so. What was the fallout? Bent valves?
I didn't change mine until about 450k and there was barely even any belt dust in there to speak of. Of course the motor sounded like new with all the other stuff I replaced in the with the belt.

Towed many a mini-excavator, I've changed the once in 550-600k, never had a transmission problem.

 

Trans fluid and filter that is

 

2000 tundra, I have 261k. I had to replace Transmission at 200k. At this point. ill just replace the engine if that goes, But im sure ill get over 400k before that happens. Bought the truck at 175k.

 

Welcome. Any idea what caused the transmission failure? Even with 200k it's pretty rare for these trucks. Seen a few over 500k with the original tranny.

 

the 4th gear went out. I believe the oxygen sensers went bad first, causing a chain reaction.

Broke 162,000 yesterday! I’ve officially put 10,000 miles on it in 2 years

 

@ 182K no where near highest mileage, bought from original owner @ 113K in 09. Since retiring have not done much except maintenance. That has now changed unfortunately after finding this site after visiting many other Toyota sites. Problem is my CC is going to drain my retirement on upcoming mods....LED changeout interior/exterior, still trying to find reason not to pick Kenwood DNX996XR as my Head Unit. Have no records on if previous owner did belts, WP, seals, so that is something I am going to discuss with my Toyota Dealer in coming months. Thanks to those here offering your experiences/knowledge and look forward in doing same !

 

2000 Tundra 4wd, 4.7, 330,000 miles and counting! Other than the rusty bed its fantastic. I have looked at moving on to a newer Tundra several times. Every time after the test drive and returning to my 1st gen Tundra, I prefer the feeling of the 1st generation Tundra. Even at 300,000 miles plus, it feels sporty, more nimble and tight. Major repairs to date: 1 coil pack, the starter, tie rod ends (small lift 2" in front 1.5" rear), brake master cylinder, brake booster and timing belt service.

 

Not even close to being high mileage, but thought I'd share. Here is my 2006 DC with 116,000 miles. Purchased last August in Arizona with 103,000 miles.

Mine broke last week at 234,061 miles and no damage at all. 2004 double cab limited 4.7l 4x2.
Also, I am the 7th owner of the truck.

 

224k on a 2004 DC 4wd. Need to replace valve cover due to small leak soon but still runs perfectly. Also a crack in the radiator (I'm in Southern California)

 

Sorry for the super late reply but this is the truck and I last week. Paints a bit faded but other than that I’m nearing 184k and no problems at all!

 

I was getting hard shifts for a while and decided to run clean fluid through it till it came out clean and it fixed the problem, it was like black oil coming out at first I bet it’s never even been done before till now.

 

Just saw this on IG... not sure if it’s legit but guy says it’s original drivetrain.

I just graduated high school a few months back and really wanna find a job where I drive a lot. I love being behind the wheel currently I’m in college but in all honesty it’s not really my thing.

 

You shouldn't feel forced to go to college. A lot of us on this site are in skilled trades. Good professions are out there that don't require a degree. Or ask @Professional Hand Model how to get into hand modeling.

 

I got forced into it by my dad because “you won’t like cars if you’re working on them” but like literally every time I get free time I’m doing something with cars. I thought about being a auto body tech or try and start a tuning shop after the right schooling. I have a friend that’s a welder and apparently the pay is killer and it’s fun according to him.

 

I hate to derail this thread anymore but BFM makes some really good points. I went to college and majored in Logistics from a top program. Now I'm 31, bored to death, and trying to figure out what I want to do next. While I still believe there is some value in that piece of paper, a bachelors is not what it used to be. It's going to be even tougher for your generation. Also, if you're going to end up with a mountain of student load debt I would encourage you to reconsider this plan immediately. I have friends that are going to be paying off student loads well into their 30's. This really delays financial progress.

Pick something you know you can enjoy, and make a good living at. I wanted to be a park ranger but can't live off $28K/year. A lot of my friends that learned a trade are making more money than me. Some jobs that are currently in high demand:

• Diesel Mechanics
• Forklift mechanics-my company is so desperate they are offering sign on bonuses
• Electricians. You can get a union job making 6 figures as an electrician for the government
• Plumbers
• Welders
• Airline Mechanics
• Pilots-massive up front costs here but can make a ton of money

The only caution here is that many of these jobs are hard on your body. You'll have to find a way to balance that so you're not crippled by the time your 50.

Again, sorry to derail. I just wish someone would have told me at 19 that I should consider a trade.

 

I sold this guy last week. Had it since it was new and did WAY too much to it. It had 259,760 when I sold it to the new owner. It was a fantastic truck that never let me down.
