Spent the day out in the northeastern part of BC exploring some new backroads. I love this time of year.

For bonus points, can you spot the black bear in the last pic? (I had to snap it quick while driving since he decided he didn't like my truck...)20190913_111054.jpg 20190913_111952 (1).jpg 20190913_112117.jpg 20190913_115500.jpg 20190913_121131.jpg 20190913_121241.jpg 20190913_112132.jpg 20190913_111054.jpg20190913_152354.jpg

Just got back from Yosemite/Tahoe. I have been to Yosemite four or five times now, but think I need at least a 60 day stay there before I feel like I've really experienced the place. There's just so much.

Fall is spider season here, this one has spun a huge web

Some pictures from Holland, Germany, and Belgium:

I'm a big WWI and WWII nerd, and just a fan of history in general. I'm fortunate to have a wife who is at least interested enough to seek out some of these historic sites. The trenches here are Dodengang, or the "Trenches of Death" and have been preserved and rebuilt to reflect their general state from 1914-1918.

The cemetery is the German War Cemetery at Langemark and contains more than 44,000 German soldiers, around 25,000 of which are in a mass or "comrades grave." This cemetery is set up so that when you enter you walk on a path that is closely bordered by a tall hedge on either side. The floor is covered with a fine gravel as you approach the memorial entrance, which is a stone corridor with some informational images and text inside. As you approach your footsteps on the gravel echo within the stone memorial, creating the audio impression of many, many feet marching, like soldiers off the war. I'm unsure if this was intentional or not, but either way it was an eerie and amazing experience.

While we were there a bus full of English school kids, probably around 7-8th grade age, showed up as part of a day trip filled with WWI and WWII history. I was envious, we always went to the zoo. =(

back in june, day job sent me to turin, italy for a week. it coincided with a record breaking heat wave in europe. temps were 40-45C the entire time i was there. i'm not one to normally complain about the weather but it was stifling. narrow streets, tall buildings and a city made almost entirely of stone made it feel like you were trapped in an oven.

lots of history in the city and despite the heat, i wandered. a lot.

on my last night, i wandered up to this church on top of the hill, monte dei cappuccini, for some sunset images of the city. it was a beautiful view.

then, right after making this image, i did the unthinkable. i dropped a lens. off the top of the wall.

i watched it plummet 50' in slow motion to the cobblestones below. kablewey. in 20 years, i had never butterfingered a piece of gear like that.

the worst part, is that i was flying home the next day and going right into filming a wedding. timezones and keh to the rescue. found a used one in good condition and had them overnight it. pretty expensive mistake though and i still can't believe i did it.
