Was going on a little trip this week and wanted to see how well my truck would do with MPG now that I have 9,000 miles on it.. Filled the tank all the way to the top and reset my mileage counter.. Drove highway / freeway the complete way, setting the cruise at 5 mph over the posted signs.. Did a few small trips once I hit my destination but 90% of the trip was on the highway going anywhere from 60 - 75 mph..

Low fuel light came on about 485 miles, and I stopped to fill up at 525 miles. Filled it all the way to the top for a total of 33.487 gallons..

MPG of 15.7 driving about as consistent and grandfatherly as I can. No where near the 18 MPG highway its rated at.. I was hoping for a little more, good conditions, no or little wind, no steep hills, etc...

Sounds about right. 15-16 is best case and average is around 13. With a utility trailer along same roads, drops to around 10. 8 if trying to make good time. At least you have a 38 gal tank. Not happy that I had to pick between 6th seat and 38 gal tank.

Pure driving habit and environment. I regularly get 18+ on trips and several here do also.
On the flip side, several here get 13 mpg on trips too! It's all about the way you drive.

For what it is worth, I get 1.0-1.5mpg better without cruise. At least on my truck, the cruise is a heavy hand on the throttle. At highway speeds, I ease into it more with no cruise and that results in better fuel economy.

Oh, and on my 2018 I was getting 17-18 before lift and slightly larger tires. That cost me 1-2mpg.

Its about where you drive too. Those mpg estimates are done on a test track, probably not with any headwind

Cruise is a mileage killer on these trucks. Wind resistance is a big factor on the highway. Thanks What’s interesting is I have a leveling kit and heavy at tires and can get 18 to 20 driving 55-65 in hill country if I finesse the throttle and use the terrain to advantage. As soon as I begin to fight the hills, it drops precipitously.

This is so true I forget it all the time. I don’t like how sensitive the cruise control is on the tundra. Any slight loss of speed and it is downshifting to 4th to catch up. I would be just fine if it spent 1/8th of a mile slowly regaining speed. Really poor programming on this. I feel like cruise control can cost you 2-3mpg on the highway

3” lift, black step bars, aftermarket wheels, LT305/55R20 was this way when I brought it.
I do get a little better if I really watch my speed and run Super 92 octane in it the best I have gotten it 19.2 MPG driving through Louisiana. Most of the time I use 87 octane and don’t care how I drive and I average 13-15 mpg. But you bought a Tundra not a VW.

It was pretty flat terrain most of the way with little wind.. elevation is only about 1000 ASL in Minnesota, did run the cruise, but there was little traffic so it wasn't speeding up and down with the adaptive cruise, or trying to get up hills..

The mods I have made wouldn't effect mileage, no lift, still running the stock 20" tires... Mostly cosmetic, other than the rear sway bar..

not sure how I could have drove more conservatively to get it up to 16, let alone 18+..

I was afraid of the 5.7 mileage so I found a 4.6 and love it, 19 MPG running county roads up to the lake, 18 MPG taking it easy on the Interstate.

I’m buying a camping trailer, 2800lbs, still only half the 6500lbs capacity. Better than my 08 Taco.

If I want to go fast, there’s a Camaro SS under a blanket at my disposal.

I towed 5500 lbs with my 4.6 like it was nothing. Plenty of power

Gasoline is very inexpensive. Drive, have fun and don't worry.

It's worse when you make all little trips around the neighborhood after filling up before the weekend, it averages around 11 with zero highway or longer drives to balance it out. Best I've seen is 19 on a long freeway drive.

Unfortunately I live in Canada where gas is $5.50 a gallon, fortunately the gas taxes pay for my free healthcare.

Fortunately I can be in Michigan in less than an hour where gas is $2.25 gallon.

    This is why I bought a 4.6

That is unfortunate, but how is something free that you pay for?

I get 14-15 driving around, back and forth to work, etc. I can get 18+ a little more on longer trips using cruise.
