I noticed MPG improvement over D(drive) when placing trans in Manual mode leaving in 6th gear. Truck drives fine and shifts down to 1 when stopped for intersections, and shifts up to 6 automatically as needed. Now getting 14.5+ in city vs 11.5-12-5 before in D. Also getting 21.1 mpg @65 mph cruise in Manual 6th where before was only 19.2 mpg in D. Experimented over couple tankfuls and consistently better mileage in M (manual mode). Anyone notice same??

I am taking mine in for the 10K service and they want to update the ECU. I've been getting better than most on fuel economy. My dad has the same truck and I get 2 mpg better. Needless to say I will see if this holds up after the updates.

I also seem to get better MPG's in manual mode, my concern is am i doing damage by driving it in manual mode?...in (D) around town is very frustrating, i find myself have to apply throttle down hill...programing and the reason why is great especially for towing but still frustrating for everyday use.

Are you shifting it manually or just letting it do the shifts in S mode?

In either case, you're probably just winding out the gears a little more than stock which isn't going to hurt anything.

I'm betting you have taller tires then the OEM so driving this way helps keep the low end bog less which probably helps fuel economy.

No issue, I almost always drive around with the shifter in 6th. Though my transmission is slightly retarded and forgets it has higher gears sometimes thus requiring it

I'm driving across nearly all of Pa and a 1/3 of the way through Ohio tomorrow.
Who votes I try this experiment? If things go sideways I'll bill the OP.

    Sound like a plan?:curls:

Driving/shifting in S mode with the nanny's off( beast mode) definitely helps.
    12.3mph average. No lead foot.
    <-----37's/ 4.30 stock gears/ 46g transferflo tank

    YMMV

I had a post a long time ago on why using S/6 vs D will get you the better fuel economy. Not going to search for it. Sorry.

    Cliff notes:

-While in S6, the transmission doesn’t use the TCM programming for downshifts (almost like grade braking)while coming to a stop. This is even amplified more when in T/H mode and drive.

Watch your tachometer when in drive vs S6. It seems like the truck “coasts” more in S6 than in Drive. Then try D/Tow Haul mod. Lastly try S6/tow haul mode. I remember Mike S talking about the TCM is tuned for work and function first and fuel economy second. Back when gas was 1.87 most didn’t care about fuel economy as much as today.

I've forgotten the last time I drove my truck in"D." It's in "S" mode from the time I start it, till I shut it down. I choose the gears I want for speed, load and road conditions. No need to jump on the brakes, every time I need to slow down. Brakes are still good at 88,000 miles. Mechanic tells me I'll easily get 100,000 miles from the OEM brakes. I'm "sold" on the Sequential Shifter.

I made the trip today in S6 on the turnpike and can't say I noticed any difference.
