We have a 1998 Ford Windstar that would go into "limp mode" with a misfire of one or more cylinders, would do it while cruising down the freeway at 65mph and drop the tranny into lower gears and run at about 35mph. I stopped using alcohol added fuel and most of the problems went away, plus I gained 8 mpg. The final straw with the Windstar was when we were 60+ miles from home and the damn transmission didn't want to upshift, when we got home I parked it and went in to Grants Pass Toyota dealership and bought a 2006 Sienna XLE Limited that had just over 100,000 miles that ran great and shifted perfectly. Far as I'm concerned, we will probably never by another Ford, especially after buying the 2007 Tundra, which due to the 5.7 engine, seems to have cancelled out my bucket list desire for a Mustang GT. The dealer printed out a Carfax for me before we bought the truck and because it was well serviced, at 244,000 miles I didn't hesitate to buy it.

I got my 2007 5.7 with 151k on it with perfect toyota records plus 1 owner. When i research more into the issue i went with a dap tune since it avoids this issue you were having and i still pass inspection.

    Some.
But how is that suppose to help decide if a vehicle is good. Would you rather have one that hasnt had failures and doesnt show a big report on CF, or one that was constantly in the shop getting stuff repaired. Personally, I would rather stay away from a vehicle with a long list of repairs.

If this is a warranty issue, anyone know if I can research my truck to see if it's been fixed? I'm the second owner of this truck...

Apparently, it's very labor intensive to replace the AIP. I'm not sure how much the parts cost, but the labor is probably costly.

You can buy reman parts now. Not that expensive. It is labor intensive because it hard to get to. Which everything is on a 5.7.

Bypass is way to go. Sometimes you can just clear the codes and move on. I have a friend that did it and its been almost a year since.

As previously stated if a dealer or other reporting repair shop has done it it will be on a Carfax. A dealer will have a record via the VIN or you can look it up yourself online at, https://www.toyota.com/owners/

If it was fixed at a dealership it will be on the CarFax report. It wasn't a Recall, but an "enhanced warranty." 10 years or 150, 000 miles. Some 2010's - 2014's are still under warranty. Doesn't matter how many owners. Hope this helps.

The parts for mine were over $1,000.00 Some type of housing, two air pumps, two electric solenoids, and a bag full of other stuff.

You can get aftermarket pumps for less than $200 now. I don't know how reliable they are.

Moisture is what causes problems with the pump and the valves. They added a purge cycle and other logic that works to keep the moisture down in newer models. I know they have in the 14 plus but I think they have added it in the 13s as well. I know I can hear mine run from time to time.

The bypass works good for your model. It doesn't work at all on newer models. I wouldn't be afraid to use it at all for an 07.

Never heard of AIPS problems before. If I have a similar problem with my 2nd gen, I will troubleshoot and do the bypass if necessary. Good luck with the repair.

I think they added the Air pumps in 05/06. All 07 plus had them. Even the 4.7 and 4.6s.

My 2010 GX460 (thru present) stil have the air pumps. The originals failed around 90-110k per my Lexus dealer. Not sure if the replacements have better life expectancy

Will these bypass kits let you pass smog inspection in California?

This is what the Toyota dot com site says about my vehicle: There are no open Safety Recalls or Special Service Campaigns for your vehicle.

But in a post above someone claims the 2011 Tundra is part of the AIPS recall? And no, it does not show my truck as having any work done to repair this issue.

I called Toyota and they said that my truck has not had the AIP replaced but my truck is covered under their "Customer Care Program" so it's not a recall. I have until August 2021 or 150k to get the AIP replaced IF AND ONLY IF, my truck is having problems with the AIP like the OP's truck had. So, basically, if my truck doesn't have any issues, then Toyota is not going to replace anything. If my truck has AIP issues and it's less than 10 years and 150k miles, the dealership will fix the problem.

@Yodder J , yes it'll be fixed if it breaks.

And on the Toyota owners site you create an account and load the VIN of the vehicle. It gives you the history including diagnostics and services that the owner declined. Which is significantly more than you get from Carfax, which only logs work completed not work needed.

This is how you can see a Toyota vehicles real history. I've looked at cars with problems diagnosed and not repaired before. Where the seller claimed it was not an issue at all.

I.E. the used GX I purchased had the air pump work done already. In the case of the Tundra I took a nice discount because the frame was rusty, knowing it was eligible for the warranty inspection and repair.

It costs about 2400.00 to have AIP done.

Costs 2400.00 if the dealership does AIP repair.

When i buy used vehicles, i try to find ones that gets driven regularly like 12K miles a year, cars that sit for a long time, tends to have more issues, stuff gets seized, clogged, rubber cracks etc..

Hence my 2008 with 185K miles drives like new, with the only issue i have is the shit gas mileage, but that's partly my fault because i drive like a douche. In your case, 45K miles in 12 years, that car sat around for quite awhile. Sorry about your troubles, good luck with it.

What is the code that the computer has pulled? It will tell you the single part that is bad. Toyota wants to replace all of it for no reason. It’s generally one of the valves going bad as it gets loaded up with carbon. Please please please find out specifically what part is bad, and then based on that you can replace the single part for relatively cheap.

Where about are you located? If it’s near Houston I could give ya a hand.

I looked up my service history on Toyota's site. My truck had both pumps replaced at 10 months old and 13k miles.

I'm definitely NO expert like y'all when it comes to working on the trucks. But before I bought my '13 Tundra this yr. I had the Carfax report AND luckily it was at the dealership, with the same mechanic that has serviced our other Toyotas since '83. My '13 had one owner only with 70,000 mil. I made sure the mechanic checked that truck out from top to bottom BEFORE it was ever mine. Needed four new tires, new brakes/pads, of course, oil & filter change, etc...all on Toyota's dime.

Type in your VIN and you can see everything done at a dealership. Maybe not quite as good as a Carfax that reports a multitude of shops but I’m betting in your situation that old couple took it back to the stealership for everything so you can find all sorts of stuff.
