Hello all, I have a 2007 5.7 V8 Tundra with 82,000 miles on it. I bought it new back in 07 and have always used synthetic oil every 5k along with fixing any problems along the way. I have always wanted to supercharge it ever since i bought it in 07. Now that I have the cash. Would it be a dumb idea at this point to invest in a SC? I plan on keeping this truck for at least another 100k.

    Thanks

I hear, not from experience, that there is alot of money on the table when doing this and the end result isn't necessarily worth the grands you will put in it. Personally, i think there are tons of awesome upgrades to do with a few thousand aside from a supercharger. That's just me. I personally dont have one so i'm not at all sure if the worth is there. damn, I guess i'm saying i have no idea lol.

Two schools of thought on this for me. Hard to choose.

    1) Do it. You can take your SC with you when you eventually get rid of the truck. Sounds like you are going to drive it into it's grave.

    2) Don't do it. That much cash buys a lot of beer.

On a serious note though, just remember that there are future added expenses like premium gas and probably burning through a tranny or two.

    SC crew checking in

My buddy added one to his Tacoma at 200k...he has wheeled the living shit out of since day 1...

I'm not sure how a SC is going to effect the trans?

You should see an increase in gas mileage as long as u keep out of it.

The most I've seen on a SC Tundra was 150k (no issues) IIRC. That doesn't mean it won't last longer or there aren't any guys out there with 200k plus...that's just what I've seen.

I've had my SC for close to a year..problem free. I had Toyota dealer (forum member here) do the install so it's done right and warrantied.

Thanks for the insight Sean. Yeah I talked to the dealership here in McKinney Texas and none of the mechanics have ever put one in. The ones that have had left the dealer. They said they could do it for 1500 bucks. Anyways I really want to do it but I'm still on the fence. Just because it's a 2007 and it has 82,000 miles on it

Just do it!! Look at it this way, if you can get 100k out of the SC, you'll probably pay for a third to half the cost of the SC in gas savings alone. Then when you're done, remove it and sell it. It will almost be free. :D

I agree with @joonbug on this. Even used these parts don't drop in demand or relative price. The only money you'll be burning is the money spent on fuel and labor (and disposables).

1500 is a fair price for Labor. I believe that's what around I paid. I also have a solid standing relationship with my Toyota guys and got them to drop the piece a bit. I would call and see if they can drop it to 1200 or so...if so- get it done. You'll have plenty of smiles and jelly dancers

Would it be better to get it done at a Toyota dealership or an aftermarket performance shop? There was an aftermarket performance shop that quoted me $1300 for labor

I say it is your money and the enjoyment is worth it. Only live once man....

The SC didn't make sense for me, but I would recommend it from some of the SC Tundras I've been in.

Toyota. Better warranty when done by them opposed to someone else.
