Factory Subwoofer Volume Control

Hello everybody. I have a 2016 1794 with the JBL premium audio. I can't stand that there is no EQ adjustment for the subwoofer itself. When I turn the bass up instead of turning the subwoofer up it turns the bass up in all the channels and causes the speakers to rattle and distort.

Does anyone have a solution for this without replacing the factory head unit. Maybe a seperate amplifier for the sub?

 

Not much that can help. You can replace just the sub and box and that helps a little. If you are going to go thru the trouble of adding an amp you might as well add a 5 channel and power all the speakers. Head unit would make the biggest difference for a single component swap

 

Will a 5 channel amp integrate with the factory head unit and also allow seperate channel adjustment to increase the subwoofer levels?

Rockford dsr1 will do the job. And the new amp should have fade and balance control as well as a dedicated bass knob. But a dsr1 is almost as much as a new headunit. If you really wanna keep the OEM stereo then get a dsr1 and a decent 5 channel amp.

Ok thanks. I was looking at the dsr1 but wasnt sure that it would do what i wanted.
How challenging is the install for it?

 

Depends on how invasive you want to get with the system. If all you want is more bass and the ability to control it then you could do a powered sub. Just have to find one that has a remote bass control. The PAC audio AP4 ty12 will allow you to add on to the factory system. I wouldn't just add an amp to the factory sub, it seems more like an mid range speaker to me than an actual sub.

 

Dsr1 os easy to install. Plug and play with head unit with the correct harness and plug and play with the amp. I'd say the hardest part is running RCA wires and the power and ground wires to the amp, the power is tough to pull thru the firewall. You can but plug and play connectors for the factory amp wiring which makes it very simple. You will also need to buy or fabricate an amp rack for your new amp, assuming you put it under the seat where your stock amp is

 

Thanks for the sugfestions stryker. I dont really want more bass i just want the sub to handle the bass while the speakers handle the mids and highs. That way when bassy tracks are up loud the speakers dont rattle and distort.

 

I spent a few hundred, got a sub box with 2 10 in woofers and a mono amp pushing 500 watts, ditched the factory sub, kept the rest of the high end package. For a factory sound, the high end sounds decent. Nowhere near component speaker level, but still good enough that I am happy with it.
