But it’s still a 3rd Gen. it’s the same truck with added features they have done this the past few years. Maybe 2021 will bring a new generation time will tell

I heard they are going to do away with trucks completely because they are evil gas guzzlers. Toyota Tundra will now be called the Wundra modeled after Fred Flintstones Bedrock Daily Driver. Wundra because you’ll wonder why your feet are pushing Tundra.

If the engine is running and you have a 12V accessory plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet, like an inverter running a tire inflater, does this mean the engine will shut off when you are trying to inflate something?

I like to have my engine running when I use my accessory outlets, because I don't want to run down the battery.

No the engine switch is still ON, so those accessories won't stop working. They are triggered through the ignition switch.

The engine won’t shut off in park. It’s just in drive when you stop and push the brakes pedal all the way down. That’s how it works in my wife’s 19 Highlander. I don’t like it so I just turn it off when I’m driving her car.

This goes along with the new gas cans.
I have spilled more gas with the new spouts than I ever spilled with the unsafe ones.

I wish they would stop protecting us and let us have a damn truck.
I have enough safety features now. I am good

    Glad I bought the 2019.

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
My takeaway from the article is that this isn't automatic shut-off at red lights like on Fords. I'm curious what the "predetermined amount of time" will be and if the driver can adjust it.

I love my 2013. I leave The Truck running when I'm stopped on he trail due to all my accessories, lights, air compressor, dual battery etc. If it shut off on me I would be pissed

I hate that auto shut off feature on my GM work car. Sometimes when it shuts off and I'm sitting there my foot eases off the brake just a little and it will start back up and lurch slightly forward. Better engineer those starter motors as an easy replacement item now that they are doing 4x(+) the duty...

The new auto start-stop starters are engineered for the extra duty. New bearings, new motors, new everything. Toyota actually has a "permanently engaged" starter that leaves the gear on the flex plate. Mazda is using a system that fires an injector and ignites the mix to restart engines. Dry lubricants are being used on main bearings and other high startup wear locations. You'll get used to it. Just like we did when EFI became the standard.

My Merc has a hall sensor on the crank shaft and pre loads the next firing cylinder with fuel. Its pretty seamless. At first I hated it but now I don't even notice it. In fact, I like the silence when I'm sitting at a top light. I mean, its already a quiet car, but when its off its totally silent

Auto shut off sucks. It is annoying to drive with.

As population, we crave bigger and bigger vehicles then complain that they dont get better mileage.

We have doubled, tripled the power we get out of similar sized engines with technology. Yet the vehicles are getting almost the same mpg as 20 years ago of same size.

Interesting that MBZ is preloading the fuel. Wonder how they avoid pooling.

Maybe they dont' actually shoot it into the cylinder. Its DI, so maybe it just knows exactly which cylinder to squirt

Figures that it will eventually make its way to all the vehicles. At least, they're kind enough to put in a deactivate switch in most vehicles that i've driven. Funny thing is that this feature has been in European cars for quite awhile and is nothing new to them but here in the US, its being sold as new gas saving tech.

I really like it on the merc. I dont ever put it in park or touch the e brake haha I just turn it off and open the door and it automatically puts it in park and engages the brake. Its super convenient.

Only problem is I get in my tundra and try that sht and it starts rolling on me :rofl::rofl:

I wonder what the "predetermined" time is, this stuff would drive me nuts. Using mine as a work truck I let it idle a lot if I Jump out to do something to keep the truck cool or hot and keep the dog in the a/c in the summer. Sadly it seems everything is going this way, better hang onto the older stuff now!

That is the key to most of these new 'safety' innovations. As long as the driver has the ability to turn things on/off, and adjust the timing of things we will be fine. The down side is that you pay for this stuff whether or not you want it.

I’d love to see hard facts about how much fuel is saved by the start stop features on cars. It has to be nearly nothing

I don’t think it’s nothing. If you spend a bit of time stopped in traffic it makes a difference. When stopped you are getting 0 MPG. Whether the increase is worth it to you as a consumer is a personal decision.
